That has nothing to do with the merger and more to do with kids only playing one sport these days. To my knowledge there hasn't been anyone majorly talented at Mercer who didn't play at least one sport if they were eligible to play.

I've been around this game since the 70's. IMO...it's not as bad as it once was because I couldn't stand Harp and Duffy! Now, other than the Boyle game I cheer for Danville to win them all. Clevenger I like :sssh:

The ole cornfield spys. Remember Coach Rall practicing far fetched plays for them spys to get a eye full. Later in the week on the front page of the Advocate was "Duffy concerned with Boyle's trick plays". I remember the refs in the locker room before the game with coach explaining them the trick play, and when we was going to use it. Right after the kickoff Ludlum was acting like he was tying his shoe while the team huddled off to the side. Tosses it over to the RB and a full steam of blockers ahead. I believe we made it down the the Ads 5 and scored a few plays later. Ed Rall put that play in just cause of that newspaper article. :lol2:

The problem at Mercer is a commitment problem. The community does not support the program like is done at Danville and especially Boyle. There is a HUGE difference in what is going on within the Boyle County Football Program compared to most places. The amount of parental participation in volunteering and supporting the coaching staff and team is very unique. It's awesome to witness it firsthand. The QB Club at BC is unreal.

 

As far as a merger?!?! I don't think Danville Schools is ready to throw in the towel but there are LOTS kids transferring across town to Boyle (or attempting to transfer) because of several reasons both academic and athletic. Some parents that I have spoken to just do not like the way things are headed over there and felt like BC is a better choice. In the past there were kids going back and forth but it seems to be only a one way migration lately. Danville Football will be very good the next couple of years but after that not sure what to expect.

Merger will never happen. There is just as many kids moving into Danville as there is moving out. The 6th grade and 8th grade classes are two of the biggest Danville has had in a while. Lots of talent coming as well 5,6,and 7 grades have some really good football and baseball players. Will be fun to watch.

There are no kids going from BC to D. Might be coming in from elsewhere but not from the county.

 

I don't think there will be a merger either but the momentum is definitely towards the county. Results on the field prove it and the future is solidly in favor of BC.

Did the 19-game winning streak end in 1997 or 1996? The Advocate Messenger said it ended in 1997 and I used that in article. A reader claims it was 1996. That was before I lived here.
