5a is wide open this year with more then 3 teams that can take it all the way..as graves county proved last season, any team can be beat and any streak can be broken..all I'm gonna say is there's a team on the rise..through hardwork, teamwork,believing in yourselves, & through god..all things are possible..looking forward to 2015 season..oh, and Go Eagles!!

2.Pulaski

3.Owensboro/Bowling Green

As a HHS fan, I will admit that last year's team was not as dominant as some other HHS teams in the past 10 years. IMO, it makes last year's state title a little more special as the team could not just show up and beat you. It had to earn everything it got...and it did. I am sure this year will be no different with HHS certainly not a lock but most likely at or near the top in the end. I would not count CovCath out this year either...

 

Somebody tell me about Pulaski. What is their style? Run, pass, both?? Are they built more on power or speed? More of a defensive force or offensive?? I don't know much about them..

The annual "You better look out for Covington Catholic this year" jabber.. What makes this year any different than the last 7 or 8? How many returning starters do they have? What did they lose? Do they have any incoming transfers?

 

They may well be a team to look out for this year, but, it just seems like they have a lot of ground to make up to be in the same discussion with Highlands..

Agree that more than 3 teams can take it all but I don't think Graves Co is one of them.

I agree that Highlands is very good, but you must not know much about some of the other teams in the district. Pulaski County was very good last year and I believe they remain the top team to beat due to winning state last year along with all they have returning. I think anyone following high school football in KY is aware that Bowling Green is very good.

 

IMO, Cov Cath will be far more different of a team under Coach Eviston than some realize. I know it's only his first year with the Colonels, but it will be interesting IMO to see how things go even if it's only his first season.

They do a little bit of everything on offense. Look for them to run most of the game out of the shotgun. QB is pretty strong throwing and running if needed and has a talented group of receivers. Def they play pretty solid straight up D, not a lot of trickery. HHS advantage would be as it is with most teams is depth at WR and rotating fresh WRs in over and over and just wearing the DBs down as the game goes on.

 

Pulaski has enough skill on Offense to sustain drives and shorten the game.

 

@Highlands I'd say HHS probably a couple of TDs better. @Pulaski (which won't happen this year) pick'em game IMO.

I was talking to some HHS players this past week and they stated they should win a game or two in playoffs but they do not think they will win state. I have not heard that kind of talk in over a decade! Now the rest of the players may not feel this way and it might just be the few I was talking to, but still have not heard that talk in a LONG time.

I've never heard it from players, but have heard it each of the last 4 or so years from other students. I think these younger generations only look at what was lost (players) and don't remember they said the same thing about the previous year...

Who knows, but I bet it will be an exciting ride one way or another...

Heard it from students and a couple players going into the 2010 season. That's the only time I can remember.

I still think HHS is #1 until they are not off the top. As far as your question as what is different this year over last, I think there is a lot more uncertainty at the QB spot (maybe unwarrented) going into this year. Hergott might turn in a great season, but there is just not much to go on if he will have a great, good or bad year. It is going a lot of fun watching this team from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.
