JCPS logic at it's finest.

 

Since this is the case when are the rest of the JCPS school gyms getting the big video boards to match the one at Ballard? Ballard also has a stand alone baseball field house complete with locker room and indoor batting cage. When will the construction start at Iroquois?

 

Eastern has a turf baseball infield, does that mean the rest of the schools in the county can expect the same soon? I know the kids a Atherton would love to play on a turf field.

 

Anyone wonder why so many people are willing to fork out the money to put their kids in private schools? It's because this is but a small example of the idiocy of the leadership at JCPS.

Looking at it from JCPS side of things:

 

Lets say Male has donors to lay the surface and they allow the donors to do so. Who pays the cost 10-12 years when the school needs a new surface? Are those same donors going to be around to fund that project.

 

So maybe JCPS is looking down the road at potential cost? So I dont guess I agree with JCPS - but I think I may be able to understand the thought process.

You build that into the deal with the individual school and if they don't have the money to replace it they go back to grass.

Shelby County Public Schools had no problem with giving Collins a turf field while Shelby County still has grass. Of course, the turf field was installed with the construction of a brand new school, but still.

Somehow a few JCPS fields have rubber tracks. I'm curious to how that's not considered an advantage.

 

I think it's ridiculous with the cost to maintain so many fields. Turf them all, and put soccer lines in yellow.

 

Maybe someone with knowledge of turf can answer... How many years do you get out of a turf field?

I know a coach who had a JUMBO TRON donated and the central office told him he couldn't have it because the other school in the county didn't have one!!!!!! He told them tell the other coach in the county to get off his butt and work like he did to get one. Needless to say he didn't wasn't aloud to have it. WHAT A SHAME!!!!

Ryle Boosters raised $206K in a community effort led by parents from football and soccer. The Borland Family donated the remaining $750K just in time to finish the project for the 2008 fall sports season. Before fundraising activities began at Ryle, approval was received from the school board that a turf installation project was acceptable for any high school in the county as long as it was paid for in full by donors.

Almost makes you want to become a private institution, look what Trinity was able to do with its stadium, without the beaurocratic foolishness getting in the way.

Wasn't there a big problem with their original grass field that caused them to go to turf? I don't remember the whole story.

Local schools were looking to get new turf and a sticking point was that they could only issue bonds for either 7 or 10 years the length of the warranty on the field (couldn't borrow money and still be paying for it after it may have to be replaced)

They may last longer but I think 10 years is about all the manufacturer will warranty them.
