KY Dept of Juvenile Justice Forbids Pastors Calling Homosexuality a Sin

Featured Replies

I don't know enough about this specific program to have a strong opinion one way or another.

If ministers and clergy are brought in so that prisoners can practice their faiths then censoring the ministers should be as rare as possible (e.g. don't bring in venomous snakes for faith healing).

If this is a deal where the ministers are given a "captive audience" as part of a pre-arranged program then I don't find it problematic to limit their discussions to specific topics.

I guess next preachers will have to tell them murder, drug abuse, an stealing is ok.

It would be difficult to take them seriously as a Bible believing denomination.

The Bible clearly states in the Old and New Testaments that homosexuality is a sin. Whether one agrees with that or not is between them and God.

As is the case with all sins.

I do see the comparison, but I still do not see the slippery slope argument.

Additionally, I will assume that all dentists recognize a cavity as such. Not all religions, not even all Christian denominations recognize homosexuality as a sin.

So, when the first kid who asks about homosexuality in Juvie, what does he say? The answer is your slope. No different than if a dentist was told not to tell them they had decay, recognized as bad or not.
This is the most slippery slope so far........

You and I are in the ballpark here, it feels like too much, too fast.

Gotcha. I see your perspective. I was looking at it differently. For you, the slope was simply for the pastor in his/her interaction with the individual, as to what he/she could or could not say about sin.

For me, I was looking at the bigger picture, beyond the jail.

That's why I am glad when people continue discussion and keep providing examples, because sometimes we are just talking about two different, yet related things. :thumb:

I know 2 guys who do prison religious counseling.

They both told me that they do voluntary services for anyone who wants to come.

They also provide individual counseling, but only to inmates who request counceling.

So, IMO, since their service is either voluntary or requested, they should be able to discuss the bible in it's entirety.

At any point Pastors or laymembers should be free to say or point out what the Bible says. When the USA starts reguating this then the Freedom our ancestors fought and died for including the original pilgrims is over.

Will Bibles and Korans that are available to prisoners be edited now also?

This isn't a slippery slope, it is a Slip and Slide covered in Crisco hanging off of the side of Mt Everest.

Actually the Pilgrims you speak of put limits on what could be preached in their colony. It was their way or the highway. Ask Roger Williams.

I guess in a government run place, you have to follow government rules.

However, I'm not a fan of half measures. If they want Christianity, give them Christianity. I don't like discounted Christianity. I want the one paid in full.

Government ran Christianity

What happened to separation of church and state

Maybe the government should quit worrying about a preacher condemning homo sexualality and start worrying about the Mosque in America preaching hate that leads to violence.

^ That is your opinion! Not all, in the past I have presented the real interpitation of the Holy Scripture.

Before anyone starts talking about sin, as we ALL sin, perhaps REALLY study the Gospel of Paul, who he was talking to, the time, and the reason. May want to start wth Romans. And if anyone even mentions Lev, I just shake my head and walk away as there will be no chance to get through that ignorance.

There is NO war in Christianity. If a preacher is going into a government faculty, even as a volunteer, they must follow the rules there. No one is telling a preacher what he can say in church or in public.

Plus, these are very vulnerable people, who do not need some one telling them they are going to hell, GREAT way to really lose a young person, and greatly increase their chances of suicide.

Can you provide a link to your discussion as I missed it? I would like to know what you had to say.
