Yeah like there isn't a war vs Christianity. Any real preacher knows homosexuality is a sin and if the state is trying to force acceptance then yes it's a war on religion.

Before anyone starts talking about sin, as we ALL sin, perhaps REALLY study the Gospel of Paul, who he was talking to, the time, and the reason. May want to start wth Romans. And if anyone even mentions Lev, I just shake my head and walk away as there will be no chance to get through that ignorance.

 

There is NO war in Christianity. If a preacher is going into a government faculty, even as a volunteer, they must follow the rules there. No one is telling a preacher what he can say in church or in public.

 

Plus, these are very vulnerable people, who do not need some one telling them they are going to hell, GREAT way to really lose a young person, and greatly increase their chances of suicide.

Watusi, thanks for bringing up this article. But I fear that the title might be a little misleading.

 

This person (though seemingly a pastor of a local congregation) is being told to step away from his role as a chaplain in a prison system. (those are two different roles)

 

As a prison chaplain, the aim is to provide counseling and support to the incarcerated. I would say he is being removed because of complaint filed against his manner of care giving. I've seen other chaplains in prisons and hospitals terminated because their idea of care was more evangelistic than the management wanted from its chaplain. A hospital or jail has the right to expect parameters for the actions of their counselors. Like it or not, it's their prerogative.

 

The pastor here is not being silenced from his pulpit or even from the public forum but is being prohibited from bringing his interpretation to a "captive audience" that the state is responsible for.

 

I don't know if it's a slippery slope. After all, this is a "cease or desist" to a chaplain and not to an individual church. But I do agree it's worth keeping an eye on.

Interesting approach. Herein lies the problem. The program is voluntary for incarcerated youths, just like the adult programs. So you don't have to schedule, attend or interact with the preacher if you choose not to.

 

Having said that, if you have a youthful offender, that maybe has a past religious background that does believe it is a sin and has strayed from God's word, why is not ok to offer them the message they may be seeking ?

 

If the DJJ's policy is based on the potential for segregation and potential discrimination amongst the population because of the message, then maybe I can get with that to some extent.

 

The reason for the policy is the institution could not control the message being delivered nor could they predict the outcome of the message. While many of the youthful offenders may be incarcerated for criminal sex activity, those issues are certainly different than LBGT issues.

 

The state criminal justice system has been a mess for a lot of years, this is just one more mess they have poorly managed and taken the easy path on. I believe the message could be managed without the handcuffs, so to speak, but you would have to have a mind set in the system that allows some insight and free thinking. Ironic that this is exactly what the policy removes.

I can see the DJ's point if they have to deal with a violent situation after a kid listened to a sermon, and then he feels he needs to spread the word.

 

We aren't talking about kids who can make sound and educated decisions. A preacher could be setting a bomb. The pastor should know that.

It would be difficult to take them seriously as a Bible believing denomination.

 

The Bible clearly states in the Old and New Testaments that homosexuality is a sin. Whether one agrees with that or not is between them and God.
