Oh yeah

Like the time a mayor in

Texas demanded sermons from the preachers, I don't think any bible beating Christians were trying to infiltrate the government then.

Houston's First Lesbian Mayor DEMANDS to see ALL Sermons from Christian Pastors - The Political Insider

Oh I remember that well. I also recall she didn't have a legal leg to stand on and she was just blowing hot air. Demanding something you can't do legally isn't the same as following through with it legally. Straw Man at its best.

So now the government is trying to change religion?

But it is an example of how far the pendulum has swung. That was a pretty bold move and the mayor (or whomever among her people who issued the order) was willing to take the risk to try it.

As predicted. It won't be long before churches start losing their tax exempt status if they preach against homosexuality. Book it. Do you not see the government getting their hands in everything?

Honestly, the government might not even bother with it if it weren't for the outsized attention some Christians pay to the homosexual issue, to the point where some act as though it's first among the Ten Commandments.

On this one you and I will have to disagree. Christians aren't the ones who brought the issue up. Ever since the 1970's it has been brought up by those who not only want people to be tolerant towards homosexual behavior and/or same-sex marriage, but they want everyone to approve of it as well. Thus, many Christians react to it but we didn't bring it up and we are not the one's rewriting the dictionary in order to make it acceptable.

The issue addressed by the OP has to do with censoring Christian clergy/lay ministers who serve in the Juvenile prison system. I doubt anyone goes in there and preaches a sermon on Leviticus 18 but I can see if an inmate wants to talk about spiritual matters and in that conversation brings up a homosexual encounter that a minister will need to address it from the Bible. I don't see that the government has any business interfering in a confessor/confessee relationship. That conversation is sacrosanct and is currently protected under the law.

Seems to me Christians brought it up with centuries of death, dismemberment, shunning and other extreme forms of abuses toward homosexuals, but anyway.

My point being is the Christians seem to object to homosexuality on a far grander scale than others they should be more concerned about. Unless "don't be gay" was part of the third tablet that Moses dropped on the way down the mountain in "History Of The World, Part 1."

In the grand scheme of things, what homosexuals do when they're with each other doesn't mean a damn thing. You guys should concentrate on the actual Ten Commandments and not worry about small potatoes.

And in my first post in this thread I spelled out my conflicted position on the matter.

So, it's time to put those Bible believing Christians in their place? Either way I think you will see it happen. Another step toward a watered down version of Communism.

Like I can speak for the government or anybody else but myself. All I'm saying is it seems to me that the passionate energies of the Christian world would be better spent on something far more important in the grand scheme of things than homosexuality. I'm guessing I'm not the only person who thinks this way.

If you judge by the results we see today, perhaps the churches didn't speak enough about it. The gay lobby started with modest goals and with each victory they got bolder and with any defeats they considered them short term set backs and continued promoting their agenda for a shift in cultural more's (mor-ays). They kept speaking and demanding and so the church's speaking about homosexuality or same-sex marriage has been in reaction to this cultural "battle." What once was considered unspeakable by a broad consensus became the law of the land in 2015. So perhaps the church should have said more in terms of persuading people concerning the traditional view of marriage.

As for not speaking on homosexuality because it isn't in the 10 Commandments, I have 2 responses. First, it is contained in the prohibition on adultery. While technically not adultery unless practiced with someone married to another it is a sexual sin that is encompassed in the adultery commandment. In other words, the adultery prohibition is an inclusive summary of sexual sins. Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount broadened that command to even include sexual sins of the heart or mind, such as "looking upon a woman to lust after her."

Second, homosexuality and same-sex marriage is hardly "small potatoes." When considering the meaning and purpose of marriage Jesus said to go back to the beginning, Genesis 2, to understand God's intention. One man, one woman, covenant bond, for life. Any sexual contact outside those parameters is sin. Marriage is the most basic and necessary foundation for family and society. Violating God's intention for this fundamental institution is hardly "small potatoes." The church (inclusive of all Christian denominations) has a duty to speak out on such issues.

Jim, I hear what you are saying but we are moving toward the government telling Christian churches what they can believe or preach against, that is a big deal. Furthermore, the continued attach on the traditional family and values is a gigantically important.

The more I think about it, why should Christians not voice their views? Please tell me what other group in this big old melting pot is asked to hold their tongues? Gays? ILLEGAL aliens? Muslims? Atheist?
