When it comes to being a head coach it counts for absolutely nothing. One of the best coaches in the northern part of Kentucky didn't play past freshmen ball in high school (I'm sure there are others with similar pasts) and conversely there are those who did play far beyond that and are not among the best.

 

Amen. Coach Bigg's was AP Coach of the Year. One of the best coaches in the state, bar none.

Talking to a close friend of Swaugs....I heard Swaugs wants a Bellevue Boy to get the job. That he is not too happy with the coaching carousel going on with the sports programs at Bellevue.

 

I would have to think so.... I have a question...does Nic Wilson teach or have a teaching degree? Or would he be considered a para professional?

 

My recommendation for the job would be former Bellevue player...Greg Batsche...I'm not sure if he would appreciate me throwing his name around on here or not but you talk about a gamer....that guy bleeds black n gold...he is from the Swauger era...and would stress fundamentals and defense... I think he is one of Bellevue's all time leading rebounders and was only 6'1....went on to have a nice career at TMC...I know he was JV coach a few years back...also know he has a family and full time job so it may not be possible but that would be my choice......

There are quite a few Freshman and JV coaches in the area that should be looking for Varsity jobs. One that comes to mind is Kevin Bundy (frosh coach Simon Kenton). Does any think someone like that will apply once (if?) the job is posted? Would they have an advantage if they were teachers?

Crunch they can apply all they want..... they are going to be looking for a Bellevue guy.....if the Board has that much pull on the hiring and firing....and I know the board members.......they will not entertain someone qualified from out of the region....they will probably hire someone unqualified who is a Bellevue guy and hope it works out......kind of an "on the job training" situation but as long as they have the black n gold running through their veins....its all good. JMO....... see my prior post.....that guy would be the best if you are looking for a Paraprofessional.....and I would consider him qualified because he has coached the JV before and has college experience...which BTOWNguy seems to agree would qualify him for the job.

Is this person a long term solution? Considering past history that would seem to be a higher priority than how qualified the coach is. You would probably prefer someone that is going to be there long term and grow into the job, than a qualified coach that is using this as a stepping stone. Agree?

Yes, that is what we have been stressing most of the thread...atleast myself and BigZig.....another small school supporter..

 

I think he would be a long term solution if it worked out from a time availability perspective...I know he has two little ones....I'm sure they will be involved in athletics if they already arent....he married another Bellevue girl who was an excellent athlete. So, he may not be an option at all ....I was just throwing him in there because I think he would be a good coach who would stay with the program and is well liked.

Not that I know of....maybe he reads BGP? I would think though that he and Swaugs still stay in touch and he is aware of it.

I know Nick and his family pretty well....Nick does have his teaching degree and I am fairly certain that he just got hired on at Bellevue to teach next year. I think he teaches the younger aged kids, but I am not sure on that.

I agree with this statement. It may not be the most qualified coach or experienced but I think a community guy will be the choice for the job whether it be a teacher or a para professional.
