I wouldn't bank on that. Somerset had beaten the same Hazard (14-0 at Hazard) team that beat Mayfield in the championship. Hazard was MUCH more physical than Mayfield in that game. Mayfield had no answer for BJ Combs and the Jones kid in the backfield for Hazard. The reason I draw to the Somerset v Holy Cross game to compare, Somerset had a terrific defense and couldn't do anything with Holy Cross. I don't think that Mayfield could've faired much better. That is the only year I could argue against them winning the title.

All I can go by is what I saw. I had seen Jackson play more than a half dozen games in his career. The Jackson I saw in that game was not the Jackson I had seen in those previous games. It was clear to me before the first quarter ended that something was wrong with him. I am sorry he was injured. It is disappointing to have to bring this point up as I have on more than a few occasions discussing that game. I hate that it detracts in any way from Hazard's win, because they controlled that game and very well may have won it versus a healthy Jackson. I am just calling it like I saw it.

In 2010 Mayfield was a lot better and had we been healthy in 2011 I do not believe H wins but we were not and H won. Having 2 linemen out and 2 all state players not at 100% was the difference. Even with them out H did not pull away until late so yes I think had MF been healthy they would have won and I will always feel that way. I agree with you here. That hazard team was physical as hell. The game between Somerset and Hazard earlier that season was one of the hardest hitting games I've ever seen.

 

Hazards physicality was the difference, a healthy jackson would've helped but still believe Hazard wins that year.

I agree I do think many give Hazard no credit for that title. It's just like me knowing the the 2010 was better than the score indicated. It's also my opinion in 2009 that the two best teams were Hazard and LCA just like a healthy Mayfield in 2011 should of won. But I will say this about 2011 Jackson was there main weapon and without him they probably would not of made it to the finals. I also want to add that the last two games against Beechwood and Hazard were the two best teams they faced all year long.

I just watched the 2011 championship game again. I wanted to see if my views would change ... and they did a little. I am not as sure Mayfield would have won with a 100% Jackson. I saw about a half dozen plays that I think a healthy Jackson would have made that he was not able to make. But Hazard's defense was excellent in that game. Mayfield was not able to control the line of scrimmage and Hazard did a good job up front. The Hazard defense turned the young QB Guhy over 5 times, Hazard played mistake free and that is how they won the game.

But back to topic because this is about 2015. Desales and Mayfield I put on the 1 line as tied. I think Mayfield will have more skilled players but depth will go to Desales.

 

The next 3 are CAL, Murray and New Cath.

You can count Middlesboro out. They are going to be very young. They will be a quick out come playoff time.

There is absolutely no reason to count Middlesboro out. Young, yes. Inexperienced, no. You are from Bell County, you do not get a say so as far as Middlesboro is concerned. Your only thought is to crush them on Log Mountain. We have exceptional speed, that gives us a little cush as far as the line. We also have a great coaching staff with impeccable experience. The 2015 Middlesboro Yellow Jackets will play as a team, not as individuals. Look what it cost them last year. I want you and Pineville out of the way so that we can enjoy football without all the smack talk. I live in Bell County and when it is all said and done, I would not cheer for BCHS if you played on the White House lawn. You worry about teams like Corbin and HCHS. We are a 2A school with a very tough schedule. I have no idea what grade your best players are in, but am quite sure they should be playing on the college level by now. Really, I do not know who you have that is all that great. QB, maybe????

I know everyone thinks Mayfield will roll through 2a. But imo they will have some opponents come playoff time. I have always felt that 1a football has been dominated by them for awhile. 2a is a different beast. I am just really looking forward to seeing them Again in the playoffs. It been since 1989 when Monroe took a beating by the hands of them; ( my senior year) My son is now a senior and has heard the stories of old from all of us. Now I can truly live through his accomplishments.....

 

And don't overlook Monroe County who moves back down into 2a. They return everyone from last season and are healthy. They had 19 out for season last year. Most of these boys have started since sophomores. Looks to be a very good hardnose program this year with a new look and change up in the coaching staff!!!! Monroe welcomes alumni Billy Joe Murphy who played at UK to the offensive side of the ball!!! Head coach John Pettet moves to the defensive side where he is a natural imho. Look for the whammy!!!

I've read on here before people complaining about our numbers, we are the largest 2A school, however those same people I would imagine never had a problem with us having to play in Jefferson County 4A for most of our history.

 

I just hope the East can produce a team that can be somewhat competitive with the West side. However I don't see it this year.
