First, I would say that a 34 - 26 final in 2013 would not qualify as a "pretty easy" victory.

 

Secondly, NCC has been in 6 of the 8 championship games since moving up to AA eight years ago, winning 2 also.

 

Thirdly, in the last 10 years, there are just as many East lopsided championship victories as there are West.

 

So I would say the claim that Desales runs 2A is obviously a bit over stated. Good luck in the west this year and I'm sure NCC will be waiting for you that 1st Saturday in December, if you can make it back.

CAL will be solid as usual. They have a tougher schedule this year so we will see. 2A has some very good teams with great traditions. It will be fun.

Well, we have been to 3 out of the last 6 title games, winning our last two pretty easily. I've read on here before people complaining about our numbers, we are the largest 2A school, however those same people I would imagine never had a problem with us having to play in Jefferson County 4A for most of our history.

 

I just hope the East can produce a team that can be somewhat competitive with the West side. However I don't see it this year.

 

When was DeSales moved from 4A to 2A? Was it in 2007 when the six class split happened? Also, why were they in 4A? Even with only four classes I didn't think DeSales used to be in the upper quarter of male enrollment. Was the school larger?

I bet you will be waiting, you don't have a difficult path. So you should be there. Talk is cheap, a lot can happen in a season. DeSales will battle with one of the toughest schedules in 2A. Good luck to all.

I have said it for years. A tough schedule prepares your team for a really good playoff run. Playing up only strengthens your team. Paducah Tihlman has done it for years. They can have a mediocre team and make a good playoff run. Your cupcake schedule is the first rounds of the playoffs! Yes good luck to all and I pray your school doesn't get bitten by the injury bug.

DeSales dominated that 2013 game. Anyone who was there, knows they were in control. Just like last year, they went vanilla in the 2nd. Not our style to run the other team in the ground. Anyone can look back, I always give NCC their props. But honestly they have the by far easiest path to the Championship game. If they were in the west, or a few of the teams in the west were put in the east, then it wouldn't be so easy. I know we are all ready for Football, and this going back and forth is in all good fun. I hope everyones teams make it through summer camps injury free, and in full strength come August.

In 2011, if you were at that game and thought that NCC was the better team by far, as you stated, then you had your blinders on. That was a great game and HC was the better team at that point of the season. Your other point, the Beechwood game was the 4th week of the season. Its not about how you start a season, it's how you finish. Any football mind could tell the HC team improved drastically by the end of the year and that defense was lights out. The offense was very potent too. If you think that HC and Beechwood at the end of the year would be a route, than you don't know football at all. Teams are allowed to improve. Beechwood exposed HC's weaknesses and HC fixed them.....obviously because they won the title. HC and Mayfield would've been a great game at the end of the season in 2011. I don't want to make predictions, but it would've been great to see. To bring the point full circle, Beechwood barely beat NCC at the end of the season in 2011, which is what HC did as well. HC and Beechwood would've been a great game at the end of the year as well. If you disagree, that's ok, but you drawing conclusions that don't hold much weight.

If we are going to play the game comparison angle, Beechwood had a running clock on Holy Cross that year and beat them 69-26 ... and the score is closer than the game was. New Cath had handled Holy Cross 31-14 in their first match up. I saw the playoff game between NCC and HC and to me, NCC was definitely the better team. The difference in that game was Holy Cross QB Kyle Fuller. He single handedly won that game for HC. He was able to scramble out of pressure and made some great plays out of plays that would have been big losses without his play. He was incredible that game. I believe many NCC people would say that loss was one of the most disappointing ones in recent times for NCC because they were the better team.

 

I put the caveat in my post about healthy Mayfield vs. the Mayfield that played Hazard. Who knows, perhaps Hazard was just a bad matchup for Mayfield. However, after watching one quarter of that championship game, I told several people I had never seen Jonathon Jackson look the way he did. He was obviously hurting and a different player than I had ever seen in the previous four years. Mayfield also lost their best defensive lineman to injury versus Beechwood in that semi-final game. It is always tough playing the injury card and that is why I always say I would prefer to play teams that are completely healthy so there are no what ifs after the game. If the injured Mayfield team plays Holy Cross, then Holy Cross might have a chance but I doubt it. If the healthy Mayfield team plays Holy Cross, Mayfield gets the easy win.

I wouldn't bank on that. Somerset had beaten the same Hazard (14-0 at Hazard) team that beat Mayfield in the championship. Hazard was MUCH more physical than Mayfield in that game. Mayfield had no answer for BJ Combs and the Jones kid in the backfield for Hazard. The reason I draw to the Somerset v Holy Cross game to compare, Somerset had a terrific defense and couldn't do anything with Holy Cross. I don't think that Mayfield could've faired much better. That is the only year I could argue against them winning the title.

Don't be a Homer. One person does not win a football game. He was the QB and made great decisions. That was a team effort and HC was the better team. HC was more athletic and was more physical that night. I can understand disappointing because you expected to win. However, don't assume that one person one a game...that's just silly
