Just a thought, wonder if the owners of the the show might think about digitally removing the names and flag from the car on all the episodes in order to get the show back on the TV re-run list. I don't know how costly that would be or if it would be worth it for them.

 

This kind of falls into the discussion on here about Gone With The Wind. People have to consider the time period these productions were made and take it for what it is. But as far as the Dukes of Hazzard, there's nothing racist about that show. I was never a big fan (except for Daisy's short-shorts) because of it's goofy storylines, but it isn't a racist show.

If they cancel Gunsmoke and Bonanza, we have a problem.

I would say this is a bit of an overreaction from TV Land. There were many more shows that were far worse in terms of imagery...think of many of the old Looney Tunes cartoons. Dukes certainly was never even close to those levels...heck I can't even remember a black person ever being on Dukes of Hazzard.

 

Remember where this and other recent decisions have come from though. These are corporate decisions, made by CEO's and bean counters, super worried about their image. I'd say the vast majority of the public was ok with Dukes being shown on TV. Let's not go overboard as labeling all of America going down the tubes because of decisions of a few corporations.

I haven't watched it in years, so I'll take your word on that. I was being a little facetious when I said "a bit". I can't remember ever hearing anyone call for Dukes to be removed and don't think I've heard a single person support the move.

In my opinion, just a terrible corporate decision.

Good luck finding the most racist of those on TV. Same goes for the headless "Mammy" character that was always quick with a broom swat in Tom and Jerry.

 

Those have been so sanitized that there's only a handful that are shown on TV anymore, to the point where you could see the same episode 2-3 times a week during Cartoon Network's regular Looney Tunes/T&J block.

Wait. Are we sure this isn't another dastardly plot by boss Hogg, Roscoe and Enos to finally capture the boys? After all, they do come up with real creative efforts to lock them up.

I've got it on DVD...as for Good Times being offensive, the only thing I can think is that it overhyped the stereotypes of the day. My understanding is that Good Times was more of a dramedy relative to the day

Yeah, I was thinking the same. The Jeffersons wouldn't be allowed to be on television these days. George talked all kinds of craziness. I could see Sanford and Son not being allowed also. I think Good Times would make the cut.
