June 23, 201511 yr Quote from an article: Obama’s use of the word isn’t the problem to me. What IS the problem is his quote where he says “the legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, discrimination in almost every institution of our lives…that’s still part of our DNA that’s passed on. We’re not cured of it.” No, Mr. President it’s NOT part of our DNA and I’m really sick and tired of you and the merry band of race baiters telling me over and over again that my white skin means I can NEVER escape my inherent racism. It is no more part of my DNA than female is in Bruce Jenner’s or Rachel Dolezal’s is black. Institutionalized racism is no longer part of our nation. That doesn’t mean racist people don’t exist – but they exist among EVERY ethnic group. And not only are there racists, but we have anti-Semites and anti-Christians and ageists and “fat-ists” — I could go on ad infinitum. But I am deeply offended by the assumption that I must carry vestiges of racism because I am white – and of course because I am a conservative.. I am at a loss. What more can we white folk do? When will WE be freed of those racist chains? What more must we do to absolve ourselves of the sins of the fathers? I don’t really know what white people can do as a whole to prove they no longer carry the bigot gene. But I do know we cannot move forward if the man who holds the very highest office in the land keeps dragging us back. How about being able to have a reasonable and rational conversation about race without turning into the victimized angry white man?
June 23, 201511 yr Dude, his statement may not be talking about you as the individual , but OBIVIOUSLY there is a portion of our society that still harbors these feelings. That is what he is addressing. No. The POTUS is black. Racism has been cured.

That is what he is addressing.Dude, racism was not born in America.. It has existed for thousands of years and will always continue.. It's not just a white American problem.. It occurs in all countries and all colors..

We want him to fix the problem, but in doing so, we don't want him to speak candidly about it. Sorry but I don't see where the bolded statement is offensive or untrue. That stuff is part of the DNA of our country, and while slavery hasn't been around for many years, we aren't that far removed from much of the other stuff. There are plenty of people that grew up through and experienced those rough times from both sides. He's not asking you to carry vestiges of racism because you're white....he's asking you to understand that black people still often deal with vestiges of those issues you mention on a regular if not daily basis. The first step in solving a problem is being able to recognize it and talk about. That's what he's trying to do. Sweeping it under the rug, ignoring and not talking about the problem has been how every other president for the last 40 years has dealt with this issue, and it hasn't worked. Now we have a guy that wants to address it, and talk about it, and we blast him for it. A classic no win situation.
June 23, 201511 yr How about being able to have a reasonable and rational conversation about race without turning into the victimized angry white man?Actually the article was written by a woman.. And personally I don't feel "victimized" at all... Just sick of being labeled, and sick of being labeled by folks who don't know me...

Can we recognize and talk about the problems within their religion? Why was the Fort Hood shooting classified work place violence if Obama really wants to have an open and honest conversation rather then sweeping the problem of Islamic terrorism under the rug? What we have is a guy that wants to address the issue when it fits his agenda. That's the problem.
June 23, 201511 yr Here is the quote and context of Obama's faux paus to some white people. “And it’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say ‘n****r’ in public,” Obama said. “That’s not the measure of whether racism still exists or not. It’s not just a matter of overt discrimination. Societies don’t overnight completely erase everything that happened two hundred to three hundred years prior.” I am not an Obama fan - at all. But imo the president is spot on with that first sentence... the sentence with the n word in it. Being politically correct or simply polite is not the same as truly believing that people are equal.
June 23, 201511 yr I'm shocked for lots of reasons. First he is on a show called which uses terrible language. He is supposed to set examples of not saying those words President Obama uses N-word while discussing racism | Fox News Did you even bother to listen to his message? If so what do you think of it?
June 23, 201511 yr He should have just said "the N word" in reference to the word rather than saying the word in whole. Just my opinion. With that said, the bigger problem I have is...what is a sitting President doing on a call in show with the likes of someone such as Marc Maron? I'm sorry, but to me that really "cheapens" the Presidential seat.
June 23, 201511 yr He's free to say it. How is he not? Depending on what he does for a living he could get fired
June 23, 201511 yr You read a lot faster than I do. True story. When I entered MOrehead in 1973, they gave a reading test of some kind. I didn't know what it was for at the time. Turns out I tested out of Comp I and II and into Comp III, which was a glorified creative writing class. All because I could read 500 or 600 words per minute with 98% comprehension. Although to be fair, that two percent does get me into trouble on occasion.:lol2:
June 23, 201511 yr Depending on what he does for a living he could get fired Then he should use his brain and be smart about how he uses it. I use caution when I use it. It's not hard.
June 23, 201511 yr Actually the article was written by a woman.. And personally I don't feel "victimized" at all... Just sick of being labeled, and sick of being labeled by folks who don't know me... Once you express an opinion you open yourself up for being labeled, judged, etc. It's the American way in 2015.
June 23, 201511 yr Obama talks about racism and everybody is up in arms. Obama doesn't talk about racism and everybody is up in arms. Racism is born out of ignorance and fear. We have to be willing to talk openly about what we are afraid of and don't understand if we ever want to move forward.
