June 16, 201511 yr Can you imagine our lives without all these medical discoveries? Or what it would have been like around 100 years ago, where getting some of these diseases was a certain death sentence? 10. Anesthetics 9. Birth Control 8. MMR 7. X-Ray 6. Insulin 5. IVF 4. June 16, 201511 yr My wife is shaking her head because electrical magnification not only isn't first, but doesn't even occur at all on the list.
June 16, 201511 yr Author Insulin. If it were 1920 or earlier, and a child was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, that was pretty much a death sentence. That child would not live much longer. Very difficult for me to fathom that. Also--if we have artificial hearts, heart valves, stints, replacement joints, and we can make babies in test tubes and preselect the child's sex, if we can give someone a sex change, and do implants after implants, why have we not yet discovered an artificial pancreas? Why have we not discovered a way to transplant a pancreas? I know where all my medical donations will go from now on. Forget the obnoxiously trendy month of pink and race for the cure and Susan B. Komen. Rant over.

June 16, 201511 yr I would love to see more advances in helping those with spinal injuries. It does seem like we should have advanced farther in this regard. I have an Uncle the was paralyzed from the waist down in an accident 46 years ago. It just shows that as much as we have learned, there is still so much more to figure out.
June 16, 201511 yr why have we not yet discovered an artificial pancreas? Why have we not discovered a way to transplant a pancreas? Of all organs, with maybe the exception of the gall bladder, the pancreas is least respected Edited June 16, 201511 yr by hoops5 quote tags
