I hate to see it end, too, but it has not been competitive for some years now. This series is one of the oldest summer series going, I would think. When did it start....in the late 50's or early 60's? It's been going on for quite a while.

The first game in the series actually was in 1940.

It seems that Indiana's Mr. Basketball is not playing either for the same reason. Guess it is time to change things or to give it up.

Thanks. You kind of hate to see something that has been going on for that long fall by the wayside.

Only 5 attended practice today according to Jason Frakes Twitter

It's way too many weeks after the season. It should be played right after the state championship.

My guess is that it is played in the summer because it has always been played in the summer. Of course, a lot has changed in the 75 years the series has been played. While the summer used to be an ideal time for the games, there is too much competition for players' time these days. I fear this series, which I have been enjoying for about 40 years, is about to suffer the same fate as other things that have not adapted to the changes in the world in which they exist. But I am not sure it can easily be moved to during the school year, not if the coaches want to have almost a full week of practice in addition to the games.

That's a great point. If it is moved up then there will be very little practice.

They're not getting any practice together as it is. Might as well move it to April so at least all the best guys can actually play.

Agree 100%

Plus I think you have a little residual buzz left over from the state tournament in April. By June, basketball is the last thing on the minds of most people.

2 years ago the NCAA changed the rules to allow individual workouts for 8 weeks in the summer. Prior to that coaches got zero on court instruction, and new kids would report late for the last summer session to get a little time in the Strength and Conditioning programs. With the new rules, summer workouts start in early June for most programs and freshmen are required to report as soon after graduation as possible to begin on court instruction with the staff. That is the change that is impacting the series...

Ray may play in the Friday game, the Saturday game I know nothing about.

Move it to early April. People still in basketball mode and kids are much more likely to play/be able to play. Get some good hard practice in the weekend before, some light practice/walkthroughs a couple of hours before each game.

This time of year, for good or bad just isn't as convenient as it once was.

I think I remember reading that there are conflicts with other all-star games at that time. Is that true?
