I'm sure many others feel this way, but I have a feeling I actually personally know quite a few more people on here than I realize. Anyone else feel that way?

For some odd reason, I can remember BGP member names a whole lot better than I can remember actual names. Even after being to a couple BGP outings, when I walk in and see somebody I know, it's their BGP member name (and all those conversations that I might have had with him or her) that comes to mind.

I tell this one occasionally, but I signed a check at the office a couple of years ago spindoc.

Yep.

I knew that cat well. We managed to get together at least twice a year. And I hate to admit it, but this site hasn't been the same for me since he passed. I'm sure there are those who could say the same about others like Birdfan, etc.

 

I feel that way about both of them, both of whom I had opportunities to visit with on multiple occasions in person, and hated that distance made it hard to do so more often. I regret that I had opportunities to meet up with them one more time, but did not, for whatever reasons that now seem small today.

 

Fosko in particular bothered me because of the fact that I was in Paducah and the Purchase area maybe a little more than a week before his death. I had gone down that way to go camping at LBL and photograph an area of the state I had spent very little time in. It was right after the Jason Ellis murder and I just needed to withdraw from what was an uber-tense Bardstown at the time, especially after being neck-deep in it with work.

 

Was driving through downtown Paducah and had my phone in my hand, ready to call and see if he wanted to grab lunch or a beer while I was passing through.

 

But I convinced myself I was in too much of a hurry, and knowing that line of work I figured he was probably too busy, and because I had enjoyed myself so much on this trip that I would come back in a couple of weeks and let him know in advance and we would get together then.

 

Such small reasons. Yeah. It still gnaws at me. The close scare with my father back in the fall really hammers it home.

I'd bet there are a couple of Somerset guys that post here that I know, or know of.

 

I'm kind of awesome in person. Pretty lame online.

My theory is that your life on BGP is nothing more than an alter ego. We get to live our lives without a lot of fear of personal rejection, and even if there is disagreement, rejection or disappointment, it doesn't hurt that bad in the virtual world. Message boards allow us to be who want to be, but because of societal rules may not be allowed to be in real life.

 

I'm am certain there are a lot of people on here that know me, but don't know my BGP persona and many more on here that have no idea of the connections between and amongst BGP'ers that I have.

 

The first BGP get together I ever attended was a little unnerving because I had to decide to reveal my real person to people that only knew my virtual person....a very different world to live in at times. Keeps me coming back
