What do you do with Jay Bruce?

Featured Replies

Bench him? Trade him? Play him? Platoon him? Move him to the 7 or 8 spot in the order?

8 walks and 24 Ks in 61 ABs. Career lows in BA, OBP, and SLG so far this year and last year was pretty bad.

Jay is what he is... a .230 hitter and high strikeout guy who can get hot for short periods. Bottomline, he just isn't a very good major league hitter.

Bruce = Ludwick. .250/25/80 guy.

What's his contract?

I'd love to trade him but not sure that anyone would take his contract. Unfortunately, Winker can't play LF and RF at the same time.

This, plus over the years he just seems like one of the most unconfident players I watch on a consistent basis, no fire in the belly. That pitch he struck out on today, he missed by a foot.

Been saying he is all hype for years. Got laughed off BGP because people didn't agree with me at that time.

The question should be, what do you do with every position player except Votto? This team has nobody to hang a hat on outside Votto, Chapman, Cueto. Everytime I watch Byrd play I wonder if I can beat him in a race from home to 3rd because I don't think I've seen a slower MLB player. Sean Casey could beat him in a foot race.

Lets look at everyone but our 1st baseman and catcher...got to give Mes some time to see if he can continue what he started last year.

1st base Votto ... One of the best offensive players in the game when healthy...keeper

2nd base Phillips...great defensemen but when you can't even lay down a bunt you need to go.

SS Cozart... Just not sold on him like everyone else. His Baseball IQ is a whopping 3

3rd base Frazier...I'm on the fence with him, is he closer to Votto or closer to Bruce offensively? I lean closer to Bruce

RF Bruce...came up and was supposed to be the next Pete Rose offensively with some pop in his bat, he's been more like the next Tracy Jones

CF Hamilton...great speed....yep that's about it, great speed

LF Byrd....just got his AARP card, Nuff said.

I have commented on the bold more than a few times. No one in MLB can swing and miss pitches by a foot or more like Jay Bruce. It is like he has his swing path and he hopes the ball crosses it.

That might be giving him a little too much credit. I don't think he's a .250 hitter.

Mark Reynolds?!?!?!?!?

Reds are pretty much stuck with the current roster. Bad contracts and no help from the farm for a while. I would say blow it up, but they can't.

Yes they can, and they almost assuredly will this season. Cueto, Chapman, and Phillips all have to be moved (and IMO will be), although not sure anyone has much use for an aging 2nd baseman who hasn't hit a ball hard in 9 months. :idunno:

I'm not sure blowing it up is moving your two best pitchers and trying to unload a contract that you will have to eat.

It's a start. New manager and new GM would be a wise move as well.

Moving Bruce would be a solid next step.

Leake, Frazier, Votto, Hamilton, and Mesoraco stay. The rest get made available.
