So....it's a criminal act but you have no idea what the act was; the "criminal act" should not be punished if they would just apologize; and what you hear is "strictly thru the grapevine"....got it...

The criminal act is throwing bodily fluids on another person..That has been confirmed to have happened so it is indeed a crime. If the kids were punished harder by the school then I would say let it lay. But obviously that didnt happen. Through the grapevine I heard the victim is still being taunted at school.. And the kids who committed this act are complaining about the punishment they received on twitter instead of being grateful that they could of been punished much worse... So if thats true, yes if the school isnt holding them accountable and mommy and daddy are not going to, the let the law do it. In a few months they will not have the protections of the school or mommy and daddy( for those graduating) So they will learn very quickly the consequences of doing dumb stuff like this..

I get the privacy issue and I also understand the Administration's theory of lets just stay quiet and it will go away. You see it everyday in the media. There is always another news story that will make most of us forget about the one we heard about yesterday.

The only thing I really hope comes out of this is I hope the school administration takes another look at their Anti-Bullying programs internally and re-emphasizes them. I remember maybe 5yrs or so ago when they sent home a bunch of literature on Anti-Bullying and they talked about zero tolerance, etc. Well, it appears they may want to go back and revisit that campaign after this incident and some of the claims made on Twitter by former Highlands Athletes. In the end that is really all anybody truly wants is to get tougher on Bullying and eradicate it as best they can from their school. Hard to say if the offenders have learned a lesson or not, only they will know that.

Well judging by one of the person's twitter post that someone posted on here, it is apparent that person learned nothing from it. Considering he didn't understand why he would even be suspended for something like this. That is the point people are trying to make here. Their actions effected another human and the punishment Highlands gave them is not something that is going to teach them any lesson at all.

It is a hard position to be in, and obviously I wouldn't want to be in Highlands position even having to make a decision on something like this. However I definitely think they got this one way wrong.

In all honesty, did you guys honestly think there would be a harsher punishment? This is Highlands for crying out loud.

I doubt you really do, because one drives the other.

Actually, I didf.

I still have no idea what the details are. I have heard about 4 different stories on what happened. Based on the little facts we have, I thought the punishment would be harder. But comparing it to the penalties to the McNicholas players who were charged with felonies, I am not sure. I think there should have been a message sent.

Happens in every school system, not just Highlands. Policies are set in all systems across Ky and US, and in most cases by their SBDM councils, or districts, whether we like it or not. Discipline is not universal and neither is zero tolerance, each case is subject to the discretion of who is giving it. That the way it is and always will be. Especially dealing with suspensions and expellable offenses. Right or wrong, the decision has been made, the school will not elaborate to protect all individuals rights. Period. If and when it happens at other schools, then they will be put to the test as well, a human one, to judge and determine. There is no script in these cases. If you think I am wrong, get your teaching certification, teach for 10 plus years (with kids ranging from all disciplines of life), get your Masters degree in Administration, get hired as a principal, then when this happens, you make the call. Good Luck being right or wrong, no matter what you do, it will never satisfy all those involved, but especially those who have nothing to do with it directly. Throw stones, because they don't live in glass houses.

I think this is a good post to end the thread with.
