The only way you can say it's over is if you are the parent. The school may have ruled but that does not mean the parent lets it go. They could keep it alive for a little while longer in the media or contact a lawyer and file a civil suit.

There are no privacy issues when it comes to social media. While the school may not be allowed to come out say it, all it takes is for someone to see the kids at school or the games and do the math. No secret there.

Seems like it was also "fact" that the parents of the victim weren't going to come out either. I would bet this media blitz by 19 does change things a bit. There's already an overwhelming feeling that this should not and can not be tolerated.

I couldn't disagree any stronger with you. If what the parent told Tricia Macke in the interview is true about the coach instructing some of the players (probably perpetrators) to delete the evidence off of their phones that could constitute criminal behavior and heads should roll.

 

The Fox19 article says the story is developing. If so Tricia, you need to corroborate the deletion of evidence with another witness if possible and nail your original source down. Additionally, you would need to speak with the victim's family and determine if they feel/felt coerced into not making a big deal of this and/or not pushing for a meaningful punishment.

 

I know some of you are going to be upset with me for this post and I don't give a flying you know what. This is bullying plain and simple. And if this thread stops one kid from being bullied in the future then it is a success.

Now with the parent allegation of evidence tampering I think you need to bring in an outside law firm and start the investigation over.

 

At the end of the day Highlands, you don't want to end up being a case study for how not to handle a bullying complaint.

Reminds me a bit of something that happened at McNicholas HS earlier this school year. Freshman football players involved in what was called "hazing" at the time.

 

Different, yet similarly disgusting choices made by the kids involved toward the victim. If memory serves, perps weren't only kicked off the team, but kicked out of school.

 

Deters was considering criminal charges, but if anything was filed criminally it was at the juvenile level.

 

Without further comparing the situations, I thought at the time the action by those involved at McNick gave a pretty good model for others to follow.

I see this possibly getting even uglier very quick. I hope that the powers to be at HHS see how much of a mess this has already become, and you are correct, it's getting very close to being carried by more than just the local Cincinnati TV stations.

A recent former football player took Tricia to task about her breaking the story and told her that this happens all the time. It's gotten 26 and counting favorites on Twitter - mostly from current and former HHS football players.

If this is true and this has been going on for a while, things will get even worse in Ft. Thomas.

 

That may not have been the smartest thing for the football player to say, as that very well could bring a lot more attention to this situation as well as how Highlands handles these kind of situations. At least one poster asked about on the first day that this story broke on BGP, two days ago, that what else may an investigation uncover? And they were basically laughed at, now there are athletes saying that this happens all of the time? Not a good situation.

Agreed. Don't they think that attempting to get into a social media war basically telling a news anchor to back off will actually have the news teams dig even deeper?
