March 30, 201511 yr When you say "won't do it", I assume you're talking about Kentucky, right? And I agree if you are. Pearl would crawl to Lexington for the job if it were offered IMO. Yes, UK wouldn't do it.
March 30, 201511 yr Author I am a bit surprised for all the love of Pearl. Yes, he is personable and flambouyant and he wins(what UK fans care about) but he has the integrity of a televangelist(see Peter Popov or Benny Hinn).
March 31, 201511 yr The traditional format would suggest Kentucky hire a former assistant, calm demeanor, good coach, but will ultimately fail to achieve the high standards set by their predecessor. And of course the guy who replaces that guy will be awful! 1. Rupp - hero 2. Hall - solid, but not Rupp 3. Sutton - disaster 1. Pitino - hero 2. Smith - solid, but not Pitino 3. Gillispie - disaster 1. Calipari - hero 2. ? 3. I like referring to this cycle as: Rupp (Awesome) Hall (Average) Sutton (Alcoholic) Rick (Awesome) Tubby (Average) Billy Clyde (Alcoholic) Cal (Awesome) ? (Average) ? (Alcoholic)

(Alcoholic) So if Cal leaves we are possibly just two years away from Awesome again!!! Average Coach Fired because he's not Cal after first season Alcoholic Coach takes job, realizes that he's not Cal and begins to drink heavily...fired at the end of the second season Awesome Coach Hired the day after Alcoholic Coach is Fired and "We're Back" T-Shirts sell out across the Commonwealth!!!!
March 31, 201511 yr Sean Miller... Best young coach out there Thad Matta... Recruits very well and has a personality for the job. Tom Izzo... He was going to take the job if Cal didn't in 09. Mark Few. Brad Stevens.
March 31, 201511 yr Not sure I get Average with Joe Hall. Sure he was as dry as dirt, but average? I think he's in the Hall of Fame and he's average. :ohbrother:
March 31, 201511 yr 1. Rupp - hero 2. Hall - solid, but not Rupp 3. Sutton - disaster 1. Pitino - hero 2. Smith - solid, but not Pitino 3. Gillispie - disaster 1. Calipari - hero 2. ? 3. Both of the successors to the heros did win National Championships.

March 31, 201511 yr Compared to Rupp, Rick, & Cal I think Hall is a step below. That's cool, but the step in my mind isn't average. It's still a high rung. Man could recruit. He did a great job with his 1-3-1 defense. Weight Training. Plus he produced with 1 National Title 3 Final Fours, 3 more Elite Eights and the '76 NIT without Robey. Plus had the guts to bench Robey, Givens and Claytor to start the 2nd half of an NCAA game and leave them there for about 6 or more minutes.

So I put him a rung higher.
March 31, 201511 yr Do we really know that Izzo would have taken the job if Cal didn't? I remember hearing that he's a close friend of Tubby and would not come to UK that close to him leaving.
March 31, 201511 yr To me, it's Gregg Marshall or Brad Stevens. Just from watching Wichita over the past few years, I think he's one of the best X & O guys out there and should be able to recruit to UK. Stevens speaks for hisself, even though he might be a mainstay in Boston
March 31, 201511 yr Can't believe no one has said Travis Ford. I'm glad... I don't want him, but I thought he would be a name thrown out there.
