Did the best team actually win the state tournment?

Featured Replies

I think of the Sweet 16 as of a Fuel Mileage NASCAR race.

Whoever has the most fuel at the end wins..

The Draw is kind of the like whoever gets the best final pitstop..

Hahaha jkjk

Ballard to me had a great talent in Jalen Perry but I was actually surprised on easy they looked to defeat and defend.

It's not right to take anything away from Owensboro. My guess is that if they played Trinity in Rupp last Sunday they probably would've avenged their earlier loss. I'm surprised that not many people brought up the fact that Boyle County shot 47 free throws last Friday night- (hit 40!) Would your favorite high school team be able to climb that officiating fiasco? Be honest... Being said- Ballard would've had a really tough time beating Owensboro.

Officiating fiasco? Says who? Care to elaborate? I was there and I don't remember seeing stated "fiasco".

Sounds like a Player Fouling problem to me. But I recommend watching this(Quarterfinals ? 3/20- 6:30 p.m. ? Game 11 ? Ballard vs. Boyle County | KHSAA.tv ) all the way through . Watch all the fouls.. and count them.. and then come back to me with how much did the officials mess up the game

32 fouls to 15. Boyle shoots 47. Ballard shoots 22. 47. 47? Wow. Hard to find an NBA game where a team shoots 47. Don't watch the tape- it'll bore you silly.

It's just like any other tournament...it's all about matchups, stamina and luck. The so-called best teams don't always cut down the nets. That's why they play the games rather than just naming Trinity or whoever state champs in December.

I watched Trinity in person 3 times this season and at no time did I think they were the best team in the state. That being said, I also watched Owensboro early in the season and I would have never picked them to win it all.

That's just basketball, especially high school basketball. They got hot at the right time, had some favorable matchups, survived an overtime...that's why winning the Sweet Sixteen truly is a magical ride.

Not picking on anybody in particular - but when the fouls in a game are unbalanced (47-22 was referenced above) - why is it never because one team just simply fouled more than the other? Why is it always an officiating issue?

Yep, and Ballard fouling their tails off in the 4th quarter trying to stop the clock and get back in the game had nothing to do with that total I suppose. And Boyle having the lead had nothing to do with them trying NOT to foul and keep Ballard from scoring with the clock stopped. Fouls aren't always going to be even. That's not the refs job. Their job is to call the fouls when/where they happen. For the most part the refs did their job in that game.

Ballard committed- and I say that with reservation- more fouls in the third quarter than in the 4th.

I wonder how Trinity feels knowing they are the "best" team in the State of Kentucky, but Owensboro has the trophy and will be getting the rings?

I can tell you this Owensboro is going to keep the trophy, and hang the banner and wear their rings proudly.

Henderson County > Trinity

Oh wait...

At any given moment you or your team can be the "BEST". Owensboro was the best when it mattered, so yes to end the year, they are the BEST.

Amen! Played the best game! Enjoyed all the games that week. They played with heart

Team that goes home with the hardware is the BEST, don't care if their 14-18 or 32-3.

Trinity is disappoined of course, but that's life. You pick yourself up and keep it moving. They are already looking ahead to next season.
