That's him. Good player. Underrated for what he brought to the 03 team.

I would have thought he was referring to Nick Feagan who went to Transy.

Nick was arguably better than Doellman for Ryle during their regional championship run in '02 (Nick's senior year).

Nick was an outstanding player (and is still pretty solid). He's probabaly 6'6'' or 6'7''.

Yes sir. Region was LOADED that year with size and talent.

Highlands- 6'8 Ross Neltner, 6'6 Kevin Gilles (Guidugli)

St Henry- 6'5 Matt Schmidt (Otte, Vieth, Fabiani)

Simon Kenton- 6'8 Mike Brock, 6'4 Mike Kannady (Stowers)

Ryle- 6'8 Justin Doellman

Holmes- 6'6 Duran Smith, 6'6 Lexi Brown ( Englemon,Brandon Smith, 6'3 Ryan Fischer)

Covcath- 6'7 Votel brothers, Nestheide, Ryan Kennedy

Dixie- 6'6 Bramlage, 6'4 O'Toole, 7'0 Mayes , smaller Bramlage, DJ Corbett

Ludlow- Arnold and Mike Lewis

Scott- Riegler and Hutchinson

Lloyd- Kinney

Boone- 6'8 Rasso, Dave McFarland

Newport- Mike Searp

EVERY team in the region that year had what would likely be a top 3-5 player in the region today. From a pure competitive standpoint, it was a war every night in the 9th region.

Dixie, SK, Highlands, and St Henry were all top 20 teams and Covcath was a year shy of (IMO) their best team since 2000.

Didn't Holmes have 6'6 Noll and Lloyd have 6'6 Wilson around then? Dixie also had 6'4 250 Doug Jones.

No, if you are going to post like the expert, do a little homework. People view you as the guy to go to concerning basketball on here (and I mean that as a compliment). If you are going to represent kids, then represent. That is why this board is bad in many ways. People get on here and spout off about what they know but do not know as much as they let on. If you do not know, then don't post anything.

Actually, a little homework will reveal that I specifically used the phrase "educated guess" when asking for information on Ryle, Dixie, Lloyd, and Ludlow -- and that is precisely what Walter provided. Yes, BGP can be frustrating when we feel someone omitted something important, but let's leave the outrage for life's bigger problems.

Can we get back to the present? I'm confused.

Since its for next season, let's get back to the future.

It was not outrage, just speaking up for our boys. I certainly don't think that Walter needs your protection. He is a big boy and it was not an educated guess, it was an uneducated one. That was my point. Thanks for your concern.

Since we're talking talent and size and mentioned that Ludlow team, 6'9" Penick was I think a soph that year. He ended up at Wright State for a short time I believe. That Ludlow team won about 4 consecutive conference titles I believe.

To shed some small school light on this...

Ludlow loses Hart which is a big loss, but returns both Mitchell and Gibson. If the Roark kid comes back they will probably unquestionably be the favorite in the conference again. I would say those three, Eads, and draw a name out of a hat. They'll be talented.

Dayton loses a lot inside. Grimme and Brewer saw a bulk of those minutes. Sam Brewer and McDaniel will probably start at the guards, and then I'd guess Patton, Matthews, and maybe Gifford would get the first shot in the starting lineup. Have some other young kids that could crack it as well.

This is all pending Silver Grove, who I hear it's up in the air whether they have a team or not. The graduate I think 6 guys on a 9 man team. Heard Kuntz could end up at Dayton for his senior year. He would obviously start there.

Villa returns everyone from a young team pending the Kenkel kid coming back healthy. You'd expect he and Thomas Schutzman to anchor them, and then McQueen and Martin in the post. Probably one of their JV kids moving up as the 5th.

Bellevue loses a ton with Woodyard and Barrett inside and Arnzen at the point. They return Matt Fryman who will start along with Stephenson and then it's anyone's guess... Baker? Hayes? Craig? They'll be pretty young and inexperienced.

Thanks, ESPNdeux!

Great stuff! Nice to hear about all the players and teams from smaller schools. IF--there is not team at Silver Grove, is that a "KHSAA no red tape" move for Kuntz? And--is there such a thing as staying at his school for senior year but playing on another school's team because his does not have one?

Noll was class of '99. Wilson was class of '00. Doug Jones did not play basketball his senior year because of a knee injury.

Feagan from Ryle was mentioned in a couple posts. Very good player (not better than Doellman though). He was class of '02, the year Ryle won the region. Very good kid and great guy from the few times I've interacted with him.

Thanks, ESPNdeux!

To try to shed some light on your two part question, once a kid plays a varsity sport, I think the same rules apply for every transfer. i.e. no such thing as a "no red tape" move. Not positive on this, but that's my take. And I know, it's the KHSAA, so go easy on the "same rules" and "no red tape" stuff in my post. Just trying to help Hoops5 out.

On the bolded, you can't go to school one place and play sports for a different school just because your school doesn't offer it. I hear people mention this from time to time, not a rule.

Think of the confusion it could cause in the St. Henry hallways on football Friday's as kids walk around in their CovCath, Cooper, Conner and Ryle jersey's. That would be interesting...

:lol2:

If leaving off 3 out of 11 players mentioned in this thread makes it an uneducated one, then so be it. Apologize for not mentioning whoever it was I left off. :thumb:
