9th Region Starter Predictions

Featured Replies

I remember that year Walter. Rasso from Boone, Kuhn from Conner, I can't believe I don't remember the kids name from Ryle - was that Doehlman? (sp) I think Brock was at SK that year, and Neltner was at Highlands. Am I thinking of the right years?

Yes sir. Region was LOADED that year with size and talent.

Highlands- 6'8 Ross Neltner, 6'6 Kevin Gilles (Guidugli)

St Henry- 6'5 Matt Schmidt (Otte, Vieth, Fabiani)

Simon Kenton- 6'8 Mike Brock, 6'4 Mike Kannady (Stowers)

Ryle- 6'8 Justin Doellman

Holmes- 6'6 Duran Smith, 6'6 Lexi Brown ( Englemon,Brandon Smith, 6'3 Ryan Fischer)

Covcath- 6'7 Votel brothers, Nestheide, Ryan Kennedy

Dixie- 6'6 Bramlage, 6'4 O'Toole, 7'0 Mayes , smaller Bramlage, DJ Corbett

Ludlow- Arnold and Mike Lewis

Scott- Riegler and Hutchinson

Lloyd- Kinney

Boone- 6'8 Rasso, Dave McFarland

Newport- Mike Searp

EVERY team in the region that year had what would likely be a top 3-5 player in the region today. From a pure competitive standpoint, it was a war every night in the 9th region.

Dixie, SK, Highlands, and St Henry were all top 20 teams and Covcath was a year shy of (IMO) their best team since 2000.

Didn't Scott have a big kid that went to Hanover about that time? Lye? Or was he later?

Ben Lye. Nice player.

Not to threadjack a thread about next year's starters. But, as long as we're talking history, Walter is mostly correct in his comprehensive list. But, a few of the names are misplaced.

Dixie started a huge lineup, but only one Bramlage (6'3) was still at Dixie in 03.

Kinney turned into a really good player at Lloyd, but the younger Hopkins and Hollenkamp were their best players in 03. They weren't very good.

SK also had Reed who was about 6'6 and could play.

Otte and Vieth were both about 6'5 as well as Shimdt (sp). Very big team.

Ryle had a 6'4 kid to go with Doellman, name escapes me.

Guidugli (Gino) had graduated from Highlands before 03. A younger Guidugli came off the bench for HHS in 03.

St. Henry, Highlands, and I think both Dixie and Simon Kenton were ranked in the top 10 statewide for at least part of the season. St. Henry, Dixie, and Highlands may have all been in the last AP top 10 poll.

Ben Lye. Nice player.

Lye was a very good player, but he was class of 02. Scott was really good in 02. They were pretty bad in 03.

I assume Newcath will go with:

5'10 Stevie Pangallo (Soph)

5'10 Brennan Hall (Soph)

6'0 Eric Anderson (Senior)

6'1 Luke Moeves (Junior)

6'7 Ben Weyer (Senior)

Wonder if Jake Smith will come out for his senior year? Could be a solid guard to add to the rotation as a senior if he gets in the gym this summer. i know he has really put a lot of focus in to football, though.

I don't think Jake will play his Senior year but his little brother should be playing.

I've been told by multiple people that Jake is playing his senior year.

I hope so he is a very good athlete.

I don't believe his younger brother was on the freshmen team this year

While there's nothing wrong with a few trips down memory lane, this thread is still missing a few of next year's projected starting lineups. Ryle, Lloyd, Dixie, Ludlow -- any folks out there with educated guesses?

I would love to hear about those schools as well.

I think Lloyd has a solid group coming back, not many seniors on the squad this past season.

I am very curious about Dixie. They had a very talented gsoup of seniors in their starting 5 this year.

He chose not to play, but he will be coming out next year.

Lloyd returns Lashunn Townsend, Blake Donovan, anf Sterling Hamilton.

Ryle returns Logan Turner, Cooper Scherr, Aaron O'Hara, Jack Driscoll, Jarrod Webster, Tyrek Owens, Braden Cheesman, and Josh Puthoff. Raiders should be much improved. My guess is Owens, O'Hara, Scherr, Driscoll, and Webster start. Any combination of those 8 could be used and it wouldn't surprise me.

Dixie loses A LOT and will be in full rebuild mode next year. Only starters I can think of are Hunter Meyer, Ian Brolley (Holmes transfer), and then maybe Reed Bradfield, Jake Jones, and John Buechel. Those were the underclassmen with the most PT this year but I admittedly don't know much about the rest of the JV group.

Ryle will have Andre Riddicks son he is a Sophomore.

Based on what I have seen, he is not varsity material as a sophomore.
