10 Things You Used To Do - But Now You Can't

10 things you used to do -- but now can't

It does bring back some memories. Figure I've done 8 of the ten. (No smoking, and no drinking while driving) As an aside to the seatbelt one, me and my sister used to ride in the bed of my dad's pickup. Would sit on top of the fender wells, while he drove 50 mph or so to my grandma's house (some 5 or 6 miles away).

Anybody else?

Did 'em all, including baby-sitting the next-door neighbors' one year-old twins at age 14.

Yep, did all of them.

Also:

Rode my bike literally everywhere in the community without a helmet.

Parked my car in some secluded places after dates to watch submarine races and things.

Smoked in my classroom as a 1st year teacher and on the sidelines as a high school soccer coach.

Swatted students that misbehaved as a teacher.

I can remember my dad letting me sit on his lap while he drove down Grand Avenue (Ft. Thomas) with a beer in his hand. He'd let me put my hands on the wheel so I could help "steer" down the windy road. Good times.

Not only walked home in the dark, but played "Catchers" in the dark - dropping out of trees and scaring the beejeesus out of each other.

When the guys on my freshman floor (2nd floor, Regents Hall) at Morehead discovered that I could write, they paid me in weed. I was never at a loss for words or for smoke.

I say this almost apologetically. I am not "bragging". especially to the younger BGP membership. I often say, "do as I say, not as I did".

It's just that things were different 4 and 5 decades ago..

Guilty here.

Geez Cat! If he did that now, I can think of about 5 crimes he would be charged with...he'd be locked up and need counseling...my how have times have changed...

Nah, you have it backwards...you should tell them to "do as you did, not as you say":)!!!

I will admit when I saw the headline I thought the thread was going an entirely different direction and called my wife to help me remember. She had quite a list.

On a plus side, saw a couple kids walking around town this past weekend. Couldn't have been more than 7 or so. Saw them a couple different times about a mile apart. They looked like they were have a good time.

The summer after our 6th grade, me and two friends, and their brothers who just completed the 5th grade - went camping by ourselves at Big Bone Lick State park. This would have been back in mid 70's. We camped Friday - Monday morning, had a canoe and a little fishing boat, and all other camping supplies. No adults stayed with us, or were with us all weekend. I can not imagine letting kids do this nowadays.

I hadn't picked on you in a while so I thought I'd fix your post for you.
