Who is actually watching the combine? Anyone?

I've watched nearly all of it

Manning ran faster than Jameis. That's hard to imagine.

That's why I always get upset when people compare Winston to Vince Young. No comparison at all.

The when Winston runs the ball he runs people over! I would compare him to Big Ben if I was going to compare him to somebody.

Tell me how speed shows how well a college kid will make throws required at the NFL level.

So do away with any test that didn't measure arm strength and accuracy then, is that what you want? Some teams want a QB with speed. At the very least they want to know how fast he is...I'm not sure why every test has to measure his arm.

...and that can all be discerned on tape.

If I were a QB I wouldn't run. Just watch my passing drills along with all of the film and you'll know whether I can play or not.

Your argument makes zero sense.

These are billion dollar franchises. They are going to look at tape and do every test they can on players they're interested in.

I've seen where one team said the most important test at the combine was the 40.

I'd compare Winston to Steve McNair if anyone. Good release. Stout. Likely not the runner McNair was, but similar IMO.

Former UK RB Braylon Heard ran a 4.62 40... Ouch...

Full results so far (excluding Dupree and Smith):

Bud Dupree and Za'Darius Smith work out Sunday, but Braylon Heard and Darrian Miller have already performed at the combine. Here are their early results with ranking at the position in parentheses.

Braylon Heard

40-yard dash -- 4.63 seconds (21)

Bench Press -- 19 reps (15)

Darrian Miller

40-yard dash -- 5.51 seconds (34)

Vertical Jump -- 25 in (32)

Broad jump -- 97 in (23)

Three cone drill -- 7.91 seconds (16)

20-yard shuttle -- 4.87 seconds (30)

Your argument makes zero sense.

The most important test for a QB?? If so, that GM has to be fired. I have no problem with the QB's doing the 40 (just for curiosity) but it has almost no bearing on how good he will be in most cases. I am surprised some don't decline to run it...like some QB's decline to throw at the combine.

A QB not throwing at the combine would be a red flag for me. Kinda like a RB not running or a WR not catching.

The most important test in general.

The most important test for certain positions, maybe. Certainly not for QB. I'm with Clyde...if you're a pocket passing QB, why even run? Look at the tape.
