NFL Scouting Combine

Why make a QB run the 40?

Agreed? Why make the linemen run a 40 as well? Who cares how fast your left tackle (protecting your QB's blind side) can run the 40?

Winston throws a beautiful ball.

Mariucci says his brain is really good.

He'll be the #1 overall pick IMO.

I just read Winston put a show on and showing he is clearly the best QB at the combine.

If I'm the Bucs I'm working out a deal with him right now.

Why make a QB run the 40?

What about QB's doing the 225 bench press? Do they still make them do that?

I don't need to know how fast they run 40 yards.

It tells an evaluator NOTHING about how well the player will fare as a QB in the NFL.

It tells you about their speed. Every drill isn't position specific. There's no harm in making them run the drill. If you are spending millions on a player I'd want to know everything I could about them.

Manning ran faster than Jameis. That's hard to imagine.

Tell me how speed shows how well a college kid will make throws required at the NFL level.

Who is actually watching the combine? Anyone?

I watched quite a bit this morning. The wife walked by, took a look, and said, "That must be boring". I just shook my head.

In addition, I really like listening to Mike Mayock. One of the best in the broadcast biz.

Both QBs have been known to extend plays and use their legs. It tells the teams which one may be able to use their speed to get extra yards or get the edge.

...and that can all be discerned on tape.

If I were a QB I wouldn't run. Just watch my passing drills along with all of the film and you'll know whether I can play or not.

Unless I was a QB banking on my foot-speed enhancing my draft position.
