Yes a hire has been made. Not sure who.

Dennis Johnson got it from what j was told.

A first time head coach is one thing, a first time high school coach in any capacity is totally different. Wow.

If they were more experienced coaches that applied and Woodford took a no-experience coach over them then shame on Woodford but if he was the better candidate than the rest then they feel like they made the right choice.

 

No one can sit here and say that if they had no coaching experience but was offered a head coaching job that they wouldn't take it because I know better. I don't blame him for taking the job. Coaches gotta start somewhere.

But, this reminds me of the Saturday before Stephanie and I got married. We drove to a western Ky HS in regards to a head coaching position. I was still an assistant at Paris HS. Before I even got to the interview, they had decided to offer me their job because of a current head coach's recommendation. That coach was Alvis Johnson from Harrodsburg HS. I had played quarterback across town at Mercer County HS.

 

That experience made an impression on me and I am appreciative of what Coach Johnson did for me to this day. I am happy for Dennis that he is getting this opportunity and that someone went to bat for him like his dad did for me 23 years ago.

Not going to say the names of the two that I know that applied because I am sure they wouldn't wont it on here but I do know there was at least 2 proven head coaches.

Well hopefully he won't be running up and down the sidelines making throat slashing gestures towards opposing sidelines when his team scores like he did during his sons 8u football game. Yes...he was doing that last fall during his sons tourney championship game when they took the lead. Several of us parents looked at each other in disbelief...one even said. "And this guy wants to be a high school head coach?".

 

Hopefully DJ will mature and be a successful HC.

Won't give names but here is some info over the last 5 years of the candidates I heard. Now all of these guys could have pulled their name after the interview not for sure. 47 wins (11 playoff wins), 24 wins (2 playoff wins), 37 wins (4 playoff wins).
