There might have been some interviews before, but I know for a fact of some taking place this week (and, for the first time).

Any hints as to who is being interviewed?

Has he ever coached anything but middle school football?

The flip side of this is if they put an unqualified coach in the classroom every student that walks in that room will get cheated, every single day. I love football, played in high school and college and I'd much rather have my sons have a great math teacher than football coach. I hope Woodford is able to find a suitable role model for this position as it is the most important role a coach plays in the lives of their athletes.

 

I had some great teachers that were not football coaches, and football coaches that were not great teachers. I cant recall one specific thing that teacher said to me in a classroom that made me think, "oh yeah that's what life is all about."

On the other hand, I can recall countless moments when a coach made feel that way. Not about learning specific plays or fundamentals, but about being a good teammate, responsibility for my actions, and being held accountable because other people depend on me. Those are life lessons that will always override fractions or quadratic equations. I have multiple master degrees and without solid coaches in my life I would not be where I am today.

Today coaching sports is year round! Coaches have so much more to do today than 30 years ago it is not even close. We had no 7 on 7, weights year round, weight lifting meets, combines etc..... the list goes on and on. Coaches pay is not up to the standard of living that it should be, I think most of us could give examples of coaches making the same money that was made 25 years ago at the high schools. I hope Woodford gets a great coach and gives him a position where he can win some games because the kids deserve it!!
