Woodford County Job

Speed is always relevant in all sports, but the lower you get MS, Youth league etc, the more relevant it gets. Its amazing how the same little speed guys that dominate in youth levels find it much more difficult as the other players mature.

It is definitely about blocking and tackling, but a matured young man will dominate those aspects in middle school over boys who have not yet matured. This is why you see multiple middle school stars fizzle out when they get to high school and others catch up to them physically and they are no longer taller, bigger and faster. Middle school team success is not a good measuring stick for projected high school success due to the maturity aspect.

It is not a good measuring stick on an individual level, BUT a good middle school program is vital to a good HS program for one reason... Numbers. Especially at smaller schools, it is important. Maybe less so for a school like Woodford.

I am of the belief that the most important person in a football program is the Head Coach of the HS, the 2nd is the Head Coach at the MS level.

Any word when interviews would start? Iwas told this week but since the weather has hit I would think they have been put on hold.

Any word on who they will interview?

Do they really take football seriously there. They should have already started if not interviews, even if it is not closed you can interview and since it is open during the school year I don't think you have to leave it open 30 days. Who is doing the weight room there, several months of no head coach puts them way behind the 8 ball for next year.

I have heard the initial plan was to have the hire in place prior to the district tourney. I think there was an accident involving a woodford student and the snow have put things behind.

Rumor has it that the Superintendent wants a football program but it is dragging along. If this is just for the football position how long on the teaching position that would be attached, or does this signify the new coach will be a current coach that no teaching job would be tied to.

If the Super wants a football program then they'll make a job for the new HC in some area.

Just curious, Barrel: are you in Kentucky or out of state?

That is the problem at most schools in KY they find a coach that fits the teaching job instead of getting the best coach for the job. And I don't want to hear some of you start talking smack about academics. Surely you can find the head football something to do, heck let him patrol the hallways. From what I have heard from my kids all high schools need someone in the halls. If you are not going to try and be great at anything you do then you should just drop it. WHY BE MEDIOCRE???? IMO you are cheating the kids if you don't get the best coach that wants the job.

Yes sir we are!

The only person I know for sure that that has put in for it it is Trenton Fields forum QB at Woodford. He has also Coached under Mike Harmon for 4.5 years at Tates Creek. Was the assistant OC at Creek in 2011 and 12 and was the OC in 2013, averaging 350 total yards a game. Fields was recommended for the Tates Creek job by Harmon and ran the program for 5 weeks before administration chose Antonie Simms. He was the assistant OC at GRC this pasted season helping them to their first successful season in many years. Fields is dying for the job because he knows what the program can be.

GRC was 5-6 in 2014. They were last 5-6 in 2010 under Paul Columbia. GRC was expected to be .500 or better in 2014 after having success in the younger ranks during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

I wish Coach Fields the best of luck at his alma mater if he gets the job.

I think they prefer someone with head coaching experience.
