What's the status of the Woodford Co job? Been open for a while and little to no talk? Anyone have any details?

Outside of a beautiful place to live its not a good job.

Why isn't it a good job?

From the outside looking in, one would think...but, since 98, they have only won 2 playoff games? I'm thinking their last region final appearance was in '91 (And, maybe their only one).

 

..and, unless they win their district in this next realignment, those playoff wins aren't going to be added to IMO.

 

It's always been one of the biggest mysteries in the state for me, because they have always passed the look test. Something else must be going on deeper than we all can see.

Lost a regional final to one of those really good Louisville Valley teams in 1997. Haven't won a playoff game since beating Lafayette in the first round of the old AAAA in 2006.

Another one of those counties that has a very successful middle school program that, for some reason, doesn't carry on at the high school level.

The only person I know for sure that that has put in for it it is Trenton Fields forum QB at Woodford. He has also Coached under Mike Harmon for 4.5 years at Tates Creek. Was the assistant OC at Creek in 2011 and 12 and was the OC in 2013, averaging 350 total yards a game. Fields was recommended for the Tates Creek job by Harmon and ran the program for 5 weeks before administration chose Antonie Simms. He was the assistant OC at GRC this pasted season helping them to their first successful season in many years. Fields is dying for the job because he knows what the program can be.

There are plenty that have de facto assistant offensive coordinators. From what I've seen, depending on how they decide to run things, the OC and Assistant OC often have a relationship where one spends the game up in the score box while the other is on the sideline and they both work together on headsets to call plays. I don't know how often they have a coach with a proper "Assistant Offensive Coordinator" title, but I think it often works out that way all the same.

My guess?

 

More competition, more commitment.....the same pink elephant in the room reasons why many places lose kids from MS to HS.

 

Essentially being an extension of the Fayette County School System & LCA/LexCath literally being right down the road doesn't help things either (in terms of location).....but, that's just hearsay. It's never seemed to bother Scott County, but it's a little more removed. Keeneland/the airport/ Versailes Road-Man O' War intersection area is all practically on the Fayette/Woodford line.

 

...but, your guess is good as mine. I've long thought the same, as have many for years, but outside of handful of seasons in their programs history (maybe not even that many) reality hasn't matched perception.
