How are they not a State Champ? Because an organization which that is all the KHSAA is, is an organization won't come out and officially recognize it? Its not like the LIT or whatever very competitive tournament, which are only tournaments. This has a set criteria to be in it, and basically every team in the state that fits in that criteria plays in it. It is played out the exact same was as the KHSAA State Tournament. So if you win the All A State Tournament, you are then the best team in the State for all schools that have 200 or less in the STATE (KEY WORD BEING STATE). Then how could they not be named All A State Champ because that is exactly what they are. Would you be fine with it then if they get very specific with it and call it the the Small Schools with boys population of less than 200 State Champion. Because at the end of the day it deserves to be call a State Champion since it is something from all schools in the state that fits that criteria play in. Which means they are the best in the state for that criteria.

Not worked up at all. Instead of listening to what I'm saying, you slap the "he's from HHS and just jealous they aren't invited" tag on me. That's just not true at all. I'm not even sure HHS would accept a bid because they have very strict rules about being off school. I asked this hypothetically already and the answer was they doubted they would play in it unless it was KHSAA sanctioned because of having to be off school for portions of the tournament if they were to advance.

The only thing there is you can't penalize this year's team for last year's results. Look at NCC this year. Nowhere near the team they had last year. Same with HC...loaded this year, but lose 4 key seniors and imo, will be very average next year. It has to either be an opt in or out or a group of people that create a true invitational year by year.

 

I don't see it as penalizing them if say they win the All A region, and then the next year they can't be in the All A tournament. Because as you stated they still would have the KHSAA tournament to play in. This would prevent a team like NCC which has been one of the top 3 teams in the 9th region the last 3 years, from getting to win the All A each year and still always having a chance to make it out of the 9th region in the KHSAA tournament. So it still wouldn't be perfect, but does lower the odds of seeing a team win both the All A regional, and the 9th region in the same year. It already rarely happens, but would happen even less then.

So you're okay that a team has two opportunities to win a state when 2/3 of the rest of the schools only get one chance? Either go to classes or make this for teams without other opportunities. Fans from schools like NCC, Brossart, HC, Owensboro Cath, and other schools that can compete...well sure they love this tournament. Why wouldn't they?

 

It should be a privilege to win any kind of state tournament. They shouldn't be handed out like candy because someone feels sorry for small schools. If you go to a small school and don't like it, fix it! Change your situation! In today's tournament, the only teams that are going to come close to winning the A are teams who have no problems competing in their region. The key word is "competing"...not winning. Competing does not mean you have to win it. It means you are competitive with the top half of the teams in your region. If you are, then you should not be in the A. You choose one or the other. This tournament has drifted sooo far away from what it was intended for and now you have plenty of instances where the team that won their A region also won their region! That's crazy! You talk about taking opportunities away from other kids!

Because as I said the All A State Tournament is perfect for the KHSAA. They probably would have folded and went to classes itself if it wasn't for it. So if the KHSAA did recognize it, then they know they wouldn't be able to let those teams participate in the KHSAA tournament. Which then the KHSAA can no longer say it is one of the only states who still does it this way.

Very nice. However if you are referring to me, I was spanked as a child. I played high school sports when there were only 4 classes in football, and not just everyone making the playoffs basically. I know the feeling of feeling like you earned something because it did feel like you earned something by making it. I am someone who has hated the 6 classes in football because it does take away from people earning their way into the playoffs.

 

In this case the teams are not given anything either. Those schools who participate in the whole state based on the criteria to be in it, have to earn it to win it. They have to earn it to be called the All A State Champion. There is nothing given to them, and there is nothing being taken away from the team that wins the KHSAA State Champion. That winner is the true state champion of all of Kentucky. The All A State Champion is the true State Champion of only all the schools in the state that fit that criteria. However since it is all teams in the state that fit that criteria that participate, they are the state champion for that criteria that was made.

I agree that it would lower the chances, (but for all you "he hates the small NKY teams that win) this argument should show you I don't.

 

I just don't feel it's at all fair to not let almost a completely different teams (due to graduation) not play in it if you are letting the team down the street in. Just because a team is good one year, that doesn't mean they will be any good the next...especially at a small school. You use NCC, but with what I'm talking about, they wouldn't have played in it at all because they would have had to choose and they would have chosen to fight for the big trophy. Now this year, they may have chosen to play in the A. I don't know. I think if you made team choose, you'd also have some teams opt out just for pride reasons. The NCC and Brossarts have built great programs and even in a down year, I think their pride would say "play up".

I agree...but I have changed my fight over the years due to the education from this board. I think it's an outstanding event! Just wish there was a way to make it for the schools that really struggle. Not schools that have the same chances of winning as 70% of the state.
