I agree the A has kept people in the small schools from complaining and maybe allowing the KHSAA to have their cake and eat it too. There's no doubt that has happened. Here's the only issue I have with singling out one class. What about the schools that fall right outside the number they chose to allow to be in the tournament. They still have to compete with school in some cases, threes times the size of their school. If this is such a great opportunity and such a good thing for the kids, why aren't we advocating for it to happen at all levels. Because there is a large group of kids and schools that fall outside of the small school limit that could use the same exact reasoning about playing much larger schools. And in the end, it's a hypocritical argument because most of the schools that do well in the all A can compete anyway! If you want to segregate and discriminate, then give teams the choice. You can play in the All A or you can play in the open. Heck, play them at the same time. Again, nothing against HC. They played and won a tournament they were invited to. But if there were no Etown team this year, I would say if HC makes it out of the 9th, they would have just as good a shot of winning the state tournament as anyone. So why is it okay to allow them to play in both. Do you want to win the A or do you want a chance to win what's behind the curtain?? Make them chose.

 

If you want the middle size school to participate then do waht Stan did and get it started, as much time as some of you spend on this website you should have enough time to get this done.

Aren't you funny. I'll ask you the same thing that I ask everyone that uses that argument. Did you start the All A? I have coaching duties to attend to. No time to run a tournament!!! I run my program year round!

No idea, but I'm not sure what that has to do with what I posted. I'm saying that every year in this tournament, everyone has an idea that it will come down to 1 of about a very small handful of teams that actually even having a shot. Saying there are 125 teams in the tournament and saying that it's hard to win that tournament in a given year is not really that tough. You can pretty much predict who it will come down to (within 5-6 teams) every year. All I'm saying is yes, each year 125 teams compete in it. But 95% of those teams ever year have absolutely no chance to win. When 95% of the tournament has no chance to win or really do anything in the tournament, then the competition in that tournament is not that great. So you can't really use the high number of teams as justification when comparing competition levels to another sport.

Highlands is in one class and is a dominating program. You can always have exceptions to the rules. Did you know who was going to win all the other classes? The 5 out of the 6. Use the exception to the rule for your reasoning.

 

And I'll ask you this, after week 1 of the football season...did you know HHS was going to win state this past year? So even your exception really wasn't true this year. They improved drastically to win the state this year. And were a QB injury away from not making it.

Answer this hypothetical...Etown is a unique team this year. They are heads above everyone in the state. So it's not really a typical year with this dominate of a team. Take them out of the equation, and tell me who without a doubt wins the sweet 16 on the girls side this year. Did you know Butler was going to win it last year? Heck, your Breds should have beat them in the first game!

the All A State Tournament might not be an official KHSAA thing, however it is doing exactly what the KHSAA wants done and that is keeping smaller schools happy so they didn't have to give in and could keep its history. That's the only reason why the KHSAA probably doesn't officially back it, because now there is a Small School State Champ that keeps the small schools happy and allows them not to have to change from the history of this state.

 

This is what I just don't get...why do we have to keep the small schools happy? Why is that a priority? We all can name 4A, 5A, 6A schools that never, or rarely, get to KHSAA Regionals. Why do small school teams/kids matter more?

Kind of the whole point of this thread. Call it what it is, a tournament, no a state championship. It only satisfies those who are in it, thus their argument. Everyone wants to be part of the secret society and wear the decoder rings. Not.

Me too. Funny how one of those names has posted since my post but all I hear are crickets on this question....

 

Maybe because some of actually have jobs, careers, not set our phones to alert any time someone makes a comment that disagrees with you. Your above point is semantics, but MLB has one organization that oversees the rules, 2 leagues, different rules (like designated hitter for one, not the other). KHSAA oversees the coaches, officials, and state championships. Support and call it what you want, it's false pretense. The only true world championships are held in sports like Track, Soccer, plenty of other sports, and those organizations that sanction it. MLB is not but they do because have been around since the beginning and invented it. Same goes for Basketball, Hockey. Because the best of the best play in those leagues, period. No premier player goes to Japan, because it's better than MLB.

Because the odds are against a school that have 200 students compared to a school with 1000 students.
