The All A tournament is a poll?

Interesting how there are two choices that are positive and five choices that are negative.

I would need to put a combo of some of these together to formulate my vote. But the best answer for me would be to restructure it. Not necessarily just for the rural scores, but figure out a way that the schools that truly can't comepete otherwise, are the benefactors of this event.

Some might say re-working the format would be a positive for their school. Some might say some answers are neither positive or negative, but a fact.

Deserve to be called "A" State Champs.

 

What does that mean -"A" in quotes? Equal footing with KHSAA State Champ? I get it. It's a fun, creative way to say you are "State Champs" even though you really aren't.

Sounds like you have a axe to grind here. In the 10 years I have been around the tournament, there have been those teams who have gone and won and then advanced to the Sweet 16 (Shelby Valley, Elliott County). For other schools like this year Bracken County for girls and Augusta for Boys that have never won to advance to this type of stage, not only does it bring communities together, it gives them a shot at something special, where the regular district and region tournament may not give them that chance..

 

I'm not saying that things are perfect, but like NKYPete said, many more negative choices here than positive. My suggestion is you go back and read through the history page on Allaclassic.org and see the great work that this tournament brings, not just for basketball, but the other sports as well. When 60 kids get a $1,000 scholarship as part of this and their efforts, leave the thing alone, congratulate Stan and his team on a great job altogether.

 

Does the LIT or Toyota Classic give out scholarships? Just curious. Not being a smart alec, I don't know.

 

In addition playing in this tournament will assist teams in preparing for the post season. Games for Owen County and NCC against Monroe County and Murray against Gallatin County & Holy Cross will only help them for a post season run.

This would be an outstanding tournament if these were the teams that advanced and had a chance every year and not just once in a while. Just think how many communities would pull together for events like this if it was really for schools that don't compete otherwise. But that's not the case. I think it would be an incredible tournament if it really went back to the roots of the true small schools competing. The ones the really don't have a chance to get exposure any other way. But that's not the case.

 

I agree with all your points. It's a great event! But some of the positives that used to be true are far-fetched for how much the tournament has grown. Those true small town teams really have no shot at doing anything different than they do in the regular regional tournaments. Don't you find it strange that in a small school tournament, you are talking about true small schools making a "surprise run"? Those should be the schools competing for this every year, not exceptions.

 

This is nothing against HC. They are invited in today's world. They did their job and they should be elated. But the All A had two top 10-15 teams in the state in the finals and many more very competitive teams in the 16. So it's not for the little guys anymore. I wish it was!

So how would you do it? How would YOU determine what small schools play in? You make it sound like only the schools from NKY win it every year, look at its history and you will see that they haven't won as much as you think they have. NCC boys team has won it 3 years in a row which is rare but and a girls team hasn't won it in a long time.

 

Some many of you knock but I bet if your kids went to a small school you would love this tournament.
