And I don't disagree with what you are saying. My point is there was no saving this season when Thornton moved to Cleveland, it was going to be a bad season. When Miller broke his foot the entire situation unraveled. I think Biggs has to be held responsible but his body of work grants him another chance. Jmo

 

And I don't necessarily think the kids gave up on him they just gave up. Is that on the coach? Probably so but there are extenuating circumstances.

 

I believe he will be given another chance, but he is definetly running out of chances. A year like this will cause more kids to not come out and play. So then what happens? Do we blame it again on kids not wanting to play? Or do we keep losing until its obvious that there is a problem?

I stand by it, it may be a difference in culture, but if the best reason you can come up with for not playing is you don't want to cut your hair then that's your decision but you definitely didn't get 'run off'. At pretty much every program I've seen athletes usually have to adhere to special rules set by their coaches including ones regarding personal appearance. Pretty much every coach I've worked under made kids cut their hair, keep a clean shave, cover up their tattoos, and wear a shirt and tie to games during the regular season. It just comes with the territory. If Biggs has these rules, he's likely had them for a long time, which means he has no obligation to change them now. If kids don't wanna play ball bad enough to buy a $9 set of hair trimmers that's their business, but no one owes them an apology.

The talent level isn't lacking as much as some want to believe. This blaming it on the kids stuff, or lack of talent is garbage, the kids and talent are available.

 

Who are the good athletes at Ashland that are not playing basketball?

I guess I should have said they posted a winning record while playing good competition. They did post a winning record, and also played a top team in the state a respectable game. That's something Biggs squad has not and will not be able to do.

 

Ask anybody around the basketball program at Ashland and they will tell you that there is no basketball talent this year.

I'm talking about any school.. Ashland at this time would be a good example though, thanks for bringing that up.

 

Don't for get that bum at Greenup Co... I don't know the in`s and out`s at Ashland with Coach Biggs , but I think his past should keep him around a little longer.. Wheelersburg Ohio , fired a coach who won a ton, got to the state tournament , witch over there is the final 4.. More than once , then the kids didn't like him, some didn't play. So they got ride of him.. The past few years have been there worst in a long time. Ashland I think would draw some good coaches in, but its not always greener on the other side.

At this point it seems that the kids have given up on him. Once you lose your kids, you lose your team. Which is when blowouts and 2-5 win seasons start happening.

If you have a lot of talent and don't win the blame almost always goes back to the leadership. It is much the same in corporations that do not succeed and Management has to be replaced.

Sounds like Ashland players and parents have an attitude problem, not a coaching problem.
