January 23, 201511 yr .... I can remember when I was young, rushing home on Thursdays to get the SI and have it read cover to cover before the end of the weekend. There was no internet, so that was how you got a lot of your non-regional sports information. Not to mention, apropos of this thread, the photography was 2nd to none. Yep. My parent always gave me a renewal for my birthday throughout my teenage and college years. I did get a subscription again about a year ago by redeeming Coke Rewards, and I don't think I read more than a couple of articles. I was always a big magazine reader and often subscribed to 5 or 6 or more mags at time. I now get zero. The internet has destroyed the entire print industry.

Cut them out, hung on my wall, taped them onto book covers (do schools still make kids cover books??), and hung them in my locker at school. SI and Circus Magazine (the heavy metal/hard rock monthly) were my main sources of art in my teen years.

January 25, 201511 yr Yeah, I know, but there was something about being a young teenager years ago waiting for that issue to arrive in the mailbox, grabbing it before my mother saw it, and running upstairs to my room to drool over it. You can all make fun of me, but I KNOW that a lot of you can relate to the days of Cheryl Tiegs, Carol Alt, and Christie Brinkley (among others) in the issues! It was also a lot of fun two weeks later to read the letters to the editor blasting the sexism of SI. And while I'm not going to trash freelancers in general because there are a lot of talented ones who make a great living as free agents. But that doesn't necessarily mean this is a good thing because of the sliminess of cutting people loose so they don't have to pay for insurance or 401K match. Maybe there should be more freelance executives in the world. People gripe about politicians making decisions about our health care system while not participating in it, but nobody ever says a word about the executive class who has been raping us working stiffs blind on the insurance game for years while doing the exact same thing as the pols.
