The smallest schools opt out. But 6th/7th regions schools are not allow to play during LIT week unless you are in the tournament. If you don't make the tournament, you can play a game on Thursday during LIT week (only 20 teams make the tournament, so your schedule is blank for the week until the tournament schedule comes out).

 

This authoritarianism at a ridiculous level.

Do JCPS athletic teams take buses to games? I'm trying to figure out how one player was coming in a different door than the others.

The bus usually drives into a gated parking area at the east end of the gym at Valley and allow the team to enter at the north end of the gym ( in between the new gymnasium and the older school building). For the LIT, there are no passes allowed. All players and coaches must have a ticket to enter ( each team is given a limited number of tickets per round that they participate). The only people let into the game without having to pay are cheerleaders dressed in uniform.

Bam, there's your entire problem. Every player and coach should have a VIP pass and there should be no issues at the door. The LIT should also spend a little money on food and implement a hospitality room for media, players and coaches.

Coach Bibby indicated in his comments that he had the player's ticket. So, even with the ticket, the security officer would not allow the player into the gym through the main entrance. Sounds messed up to me.

Sounds like he wasn't with the team as earlier stated. Third game Central was involved in you think they would know the procedures by then. Maybe a dumb rule and can be addressed at AD meetings on the tournament. It was unusually warm this morning and it would have been a 20 sec walk to the other door. The kid would not have been in harms way.. Another case of just doing what you want and it should be okay. There is a hospitality for coaches, administrators, and media. As for Food for the players that would be great but another problem/cost. Since this was an early game should the LIT provide breakfast? Doss got there 10 minutes before their game was to start. Some games during the week don't end until 10:30pm. Teams wouldn't get out of there til after 11:00 on a school night. Again, why not get together before the game and have a team meal and go in the right gate together. Each team gets money back per round. So that money should cover any food cost. Central playing three games will probably get back around $1500 or more. Heck, Fairdale two years ago stayed in a hotel the night before their semi final with Trinity. I do not agree with everything the LIT does and changes need to made. I hate that when teams lose they can no longer get back into the tournament without buying a ticket. Again there is a time and place to make changes. Not making a scene at the entrance. I've heard the use of overzealous police/security. Coach admitted losing his temper. So when does security step in?

I liked the LIT so much more when it was downtown at Louisville Gardens. It had more of a big-time atmosphere.

Has anyone else had the thought this may have been done to protect the Seth rankings and Mr. Wyman? What better way to shake a team up in order to alter their game plan than a kid seeing coach taken out of gym by police.

Re-read what was stated... Everything doesn't have to be difficult and everybody is not trying to get over anyone. A coach was standing up for a player his team. This is a very poorly ran event. Considering Central didn't know what was required for Saturday morning planning until 11:00 Friday night, very sure something like a team breakfast is happening. If kid didn't arrive with the team, 1 can understand considering the timing being a quick turnaround between game and the kid situation.

I think you and I are in the minority on this one. The tournament has rules. If you don't like them, go through the proper channels to change them. That's what we need to teach out kids to do, as opposed to arguing in the moment with people who aren't the decision makers, but instead those that are hired to enforce the rules. It was not so cold yesterday that the player (along with the coach, if need be) couldn't walk around to the team entrance door. At the door is not the time to argue the rule.

Agreed. Just follow procedures and bring concerns to the table. I also heard today from an LIT worker, that Valley has it all on tape. They have cameras so maybe we will see. I was told that the coach would not stop and let it go and the police officer put his arm on the coach shoulder saying, "coach you have bigger fish to fry today let it go." Coach elbowed the officer in the chest and was arrested. Jerry Wyman asked if it could be handled differently and they agreed to cite him instead of taking him to jail.

You don't suspend the coach on the spur of the moment. You let him coach and let a formal process play out then if warranted you sit him.

The suspension was a compromise to keep him from jail. The police was taking him to jail.
