The LIT and Regional finals back in the 90's was in Broadbent. Not a bad venue but no atmoshphere. The seats are too far away from the floor. The fairboard has so many other options having the LIT there is nightmare plus the rent. The LIT was at the Convention cneter downtown one year and it was nice. Again parking and the cost of rent made the tournament lose money. If they have other events going on parking will be a nightmare there also. No one wants to pay $8 per day to park either. Valley has added more parking behind the football field and you can park at the elementary school behind the football field also. You may have to walk. However, its very well lit and secure. JCPS is a aware of the complaints and tries to improve it each year. I'll be honest if my team is in the LIT finals or regional finals I wouldnt care if it was at Wyndotte Park. I would find a way to get there and park.

I wish more people agreed with you. Trinity and Ballard met in the semifinals on Saturday morning last year and played a 63-61 absolute classic... that nobody was there to see.

Having invested the money in the new gym at Valley (which I agree is very nice), JCPS is not going to play LIT or regional games elsewhere. And I agree - no other place is perfect. The die was cast when JCPS decided not to buy and revitalize the Gardens, or do something at Freedom Hall, or to build a new gym at Male, but instead decided to build the nice, big gym at Valley.

 

Getslow has the right idea - its time to stop getting mad at the location, because it does no good. But I'm not a good enough person to do so yet.

The only folks around here more difficult to deal with than administrators at JCPS are the Kentucky State Fair Board that still run Freedom Hall. The event is bound to lose money trying to rent that place out.

 

I'm curious to see what Broadbent Arena looks like this weekend for the Trinity/St. X game. I haven't been in there since the Riverfrogs ice hockey team moved out of town and if it works for that game, I could easily favor it being moved to a building of that size that's much more centralized.

No. Broadbent Arena is the standalone facility on the fairgrounds property west of Freedom Hall. So it is on the fairgrounds property like Freedom Hall, but it is a different building.

Change of venue this year. I don't know if there's a specific reason apart from the game looking a bit ridiculous in the cavernous, 19,000-seat Freedom Hall.

Broadbent Arena is a horrible place for a basketball game. The place smells horrible. It is only good for Rodeos & Motocross games..

There's another event in Freedom Hall at the same time. I don't know if that was the reason for the change, or if FH was just rented to someone else after X/T opted not to play there.

Male - Shawnee

Western - Butler

Christian Academy - Waggener

St. X - North Bullitt

 

Winners of these games advance to play on Wednesday against the top 4 seeds: Ballard, Manual, Doss and Trinity.

 

Should be a great few days of basketball. I hope a lot of fans can attend.

our wonderful Jefferson co AD, jerry Wyman, is at it again, after selling the gov't spending millions of dollars on a facility at valley high which is in his neighborhood and houses his office(we all know the return on our tax dollar on that decision) he now has been given the sole power to seed the teams in the boys LIT(for years it was the accurate time tested seeding based on the lit-ratings)that are named after his son, Seth ratings, he gave the #1seed to Bullitt east, purposely putting the 2 obvious best teams(Ballard,Trinity)in the same bracket so only one could reach the finals. .Bullitt east will lose in first or second round and anybody that follows basketball knows this. PRP is in the watered down bracket and with 4 losses in December, will waltz into the final. its a shame to let one adult ruin it for deserving kids.
