So, if the SEC isn't the best conference...

Featured Replies

Who is going to win it this year? Yeah, that's right.

Little desperation from the King of the BGP SEC honks? The myth is crumbling. Bama may beat OSU, but Oregon will hang 60 on them.

$100 on that?

The SEC is the best conference in football. Hands down, no question. After that, I'd say maybe the PAC 12. Then Big 10, Big 12 and ACC after that.

Exactly how much have you had to drink tonight? Have you not watched the SEC get it's over rated arses handed to them by ND, TCU and GT this last 24 hours? Disagree completely with your hands down comment. In fact, I think it's hilarious. Keep holding on. The myth is crumbling as we speak.

Put your money where your mouth is. And I've had 10 to drink. :thumb:

Not a gambler, and I've had about 15. Still ahead of you :ylsuper:

It wasn't college football catching up to the SEC. It was college football being weak. No defense anywhere! Except Bama really

I figured you wouldn't be a gambler. Rock on :thumb:

The SEC is still the best conference, no one disputes it. What you are seeing is people who are unloading after the constant irritation of hearing just how far above the SEC was when in reality it wasn't. The SEC successes have been fawned over and often their losses dismissed. "Oh, Alabama wasn't interested in playing Utah/Oklahoma." "The ACC had success against the SEC East, but the SEC West is dominant." And that's before you get to the circular logic that has helped inflate their profile over the years. Constantly it has been about that they don't need to play anyone strong OOC because they have to play in the SEC. Then when they beat another highly ranked SEC team (Why were they highly ranked? Oh yeah, they beat one of the other SEC teams!), that team shoots up the polls because they beat a good team - and the team that lost barely dips because SEC. So yes, you naturally see a backlash.

Alabama is a great team (in the context of this year - no team this year is truly GREAT). I think Georgia is easily the second best team in the SEC even though they were ludicrously rated below the Mississippi schools. Beyond that, solid teams that are proving to be no better than their peers, and obviously that extends to Georgia as well.

The bottom line is if some of the SEC supporters will stop acting like football is not played outside of the conference - that some other lesser sport is being played by the huddled masses - you will see less people who trip over themselves to hate on the SEC when they falter (haters will always exist so there will always be some). And if Bama does win the title this year in runaway fashion (which I highly doubt since all the games won't be in Tuscaloosa), that still doesn't mean the SEC was that high above everyone else. It might mean Bama was.

So being willing/dumb enough to bet $$$ is the only gauge to a fact? Not all of us share your sad addiction, Rock on to you.

That the Alabama defense that gave up 44 to Auburn? That Bama D? I'm curious as to which offense that Bama went against rates the highest.

TCU, Ole Miss, Clemson, Louisville and Michigan St. all had great defenses- they just had some let downs at pretty bad times.

That being said, I think college football was weak. There isn't an all time great team this season. Last year's title game participants would destroy everyone in this playoff, IMO.

Magnificent post, thank you. Wish all shared your objectiveness.

I don't think anyone's putting up 60 on Alabama.

I don't think anyone's putting up 60 on Alabama.

Auburn hung 40 something on them, and they are one dimensional and not that good.

Who won it all last year!

So who won it all last year impacts who has the best conference this year? Gosh I wonder how the SEC teams botched that last year.....
