Best D. Coordinators in the Bluegrass

Featured Replies

Didn't know that. Dang impressive and that takes so much pressure off an offense. Did Griffith move on to a HC job?

Who is the DCoordinator for Desales?

Brandon Smith of South Warren.

Who is this measured?

Coach takes good players and stops everyone?

Coach has good Knowledge of defense?

Or the coach takes bad players and stops good teams?

We at Mayfield think very highly of Cliff Dew!

Coach Shelby Jones from Highlands has to be in the conversation...the adjustments he made in the title game were just sick:thumb:

Uhhhhhhhh.......No way that guy should be in the conversation. Worst defensive game plan I have ever seen in the first half of the State Championship Game. Horrible!!

What adjustments did he make...watching on my computer I could not see any adjustments. What I saw was a qb making very bad dive reads and not pulling it or the coach telling the qb to keep giving it on the dive because of playing not to lose.

Highlands always give up a lot of points on defense though.

Kevin Eickman from Dixie. A master at adjusting to his kids and getting his boys to play physical. The best imop.

After the 1st CCH game maybe. After the 2nd, I am not so sure. Got the job done and allowed fewer points than the Offense put up.

Really good coordinator yes. The best, nope.

Not sure of names on some of these, however I think the 5 best defenses in the state this year were, CAL-gave up 93 points, Desales-103 points, Bowling Green-113 points, Manual-136 points, and St. X (at the end of the year was much better than early in the year) 169 points. Now clearly there are on different levels as far as schedule strength. I would honestly put Bowling Green and Manual at the top for the reason of how bad their offenses were this year, which put them in numerous bad situations and still produced.

And the 2nd half??? Pitched the shutout and got he Win and that is all that matters...Maybe give Owensboro a little credit for beating Highlands in the first half...

Now the second half was a different story and actually the only half that really mattered. If you think about it, everyone knows that Highlands was going to put the points up and they lived up to this in both halves, without the defensive adjustment in the biggest game of the year Highlands is runner-up for the second straight yr, Defense won this Championship imo, offense just did what they have done all yr, exploit weaknesses in both halves...:thumb:

Owensboro coach couldn't see the adjustment either, or his O would have made adjustments also. As for waiting till halftime, maybe the coaches for HHS didn't think the game was out of reach at that time. It's not the timing that should the main issue, it's how effective it was and how it changed the final results of the game.

Hard for me to believe any coach would say "keep running the dive, we are playing not to lose" after hanging 42 points on the Birds, IN THE 1ST HALF.

Sweeps post is spot on.

Go back and watch the game and pay close attention to alignment and assignment in the first half versus the second. If memory serves me correctly, the kicker ended up playing most of the second half somewhere out there and I do not remember seeing him much in the first half. Good call Sweep. As the saying goes, Offense sells tickets and Defense wins championships. Offense did what they did most of the year and the defense stepped up and did what they needed to do in the second half.
