With all due respect to Drew the thread title is Who Will Win Mr. Basketball not Who Do You Want to Win Mr. Basketball. :D

Spalding's to lose.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, these 2 quotes at the beginning have fueled my desire to push McDonald's name into the discussion. I'm not saying he absolutely will win, but he should most definitely be part of the conversation. To not have him on the consideration list is a big mistake.

He's put up great numbers to start the season correct? If he has a great showing at KOB he should be right in the thick of things, I believe.

Question to those saying McDonald's skill set is better. What part of his game is better than Ray's? Shooting? Dribbling? Passing? Court vision? Ability to push the floor? Defense?

Its hard to just look at "skill set" in a vacuum, sans athletic ability, but that's what I'm doing when I make the statement that one could argue Drew's "skill set" is better.

What ultimately sets Spalding apart from the rest of the field is the combination of his SIZE, ATHLETICISM and SKILLS. Drew has good size (a big strong body... but its nothing like Spalding) and Drew is "athletic enough," but again, nothing like Spalding. Yet, when Drew plays in a game against REALLY GOOD DI competition (see this past summer) he steps up and delivers! Yes, Drew has a "high motor," but a lot of kids do and they cannot perform like Drew. So, for me, IMO, Drew's skill set has to be very special in order for him to do what he does.

Finally, Drew is a way more skilled golfer :)

I voted for Spalding because I think his individual success will be the reason T wins the whole thing.

Out of curiosity, can only seniors win Mr. Basketball?

Yes

Is only Ky like this?

At this point I'm rooting for Cam Justice just to see the fallout.

Why not?

I think this in combination with skill set is why I asked that question.

Why not?

Why not what?

Why not what?

Rooting for Justice..

Does anyone know if only Ky is set up like that? Most of the top players I see are multiple Mr. Basketball winners.

Rooting for Justice..

I love watching him play. And I just decided recently he'll be the one I root for.

I only saw Spalding in the state touney last year and McDonald in 9th region games, but comparing skill level against each other Spalding had much better overall skill set than McDonald.

It's the old story of "Potential, Potential, Potential" Skill sets mean nothing if not used day in and day out, and Spalding just doesn't do that right now. Will he ever, time will tell. Until he does he is NOT the best player in the state. Not saying McDonald is, but it's not Spalding.

On this point I'm in full agreement. I'm not sure either one of them love basketball all that much, but I'm making that observation strictly on watching them both play in person several times, not on any inside knowledge of the kids. Maybe I'm dead wrong, and honestly, I hope I am.

A.T., I respect the heck out of your loyalty and support of your guy, and I know that each and every post about Ray that is even remotely critical must be a like a flame to you (poor moth analogy, work with me). He is lucky to have you in his corner.

If you think McDonald doesn't LOVE basketball you OBVIOUSLY don't know him at all.

Drew shoots 3's, I'm asking because I'm ignorant to his whole game. Maybe you haven't seen ray play if you don't say he see's the floor as most guards do( ask Walter). Explain the drew continue to bang please.

If you didn't know that's cool, based on LBs play by play against Boone Drew started the game with a 3 and added 2 more as the game went on. I'm also pretty sure his numbers on the Travelers for 3's was pretty good as well.

But I agree, let this die and let's do this again in a couple months. All of the boys mentioned have the majority of their season to go and I wouldn't doubt another name not mentioned here ends up in the mix. .

How about this Cats... :-)

It's all about exposure and hype. Anyone reading this would think the race was 1-2 Spalding/McDonald. Put it like this....if all the kids in this thread were having a pickup game with no one around...Spalding would be the first pick no matter who picked. 2nd pick would be Sutton unless you wanted a really unfair game. I know Mr Basketball is more about awarding a full season of work, not necessarily the best player, but fun to do the pickup game test
