Favorite SNL cast member ever

Featured Replies

I believe SNL kicked off their 40th year recently and I got to thinking about some of the people I have liked over the years and a possible favorite.

There have been some pretty good ones over the years. Who's your favorite? Only rules are. 1. Had to be a cast member for at least a year. 2. Try and limit this to their time on SNL and not what they may have done or not done after they left.

For me...and if you asked me tomorrow I might give a different answer...but Phil Hartman was pretty darn funny.

Twist my arm and I'll say John Belushi but boy there's a whole bunch right behind him close by.

Agree.

I'm probably with you, both in my waffling back and forth, as well as my regard for Phil Hartman.

I think my favorite members were always the ones that could go into any skit and be funny, regardless of the skit. John Belushi was one of those guys, and so were Will Ferrell, Phil Hartman, Bill Murray, Chris Farley, and Mike Meyers.

Gilda Radner

My favorite character was always church lady so I still like Dana due to that character.

Eddie Murphy had a really good run of outstanding sketches at a time when the show was struggling for an identity with all of the original members long departed. He's probably my pick.

Hartman would probably be No. 2.

Belushi, Gilda Radner, Will Ferrell, and Darrell Hammond get the honorable mentions.

Belushi

Ayckroyd

Murray

Murphy

Curtin

One of the best investments I ever made was buying the first five years on DVD in their entirety. "The Not Ready for Prime Time Players." Some things were surprisingly dated and some were just as funny now as then. The music acts were varied and worth it as well. There were other excellent "troupes" on SNL but the first was the best IMO.

Call me old school, but I agree wholeheartedly.

First cast was the best cast, IMO and Dan Ackroyd was the greatest one!

Who can't see the genius in Irving Mainway?

As soon as I saw your introductory words, I could almost see the entire skit in my mind!

Phil Hartman would get my vote.

Belushi and many others would also be in the photo.

Man too many to list for me.

Murphy hardly ever comes up on these list (Kudos to mcpapa), but man he killed it every week.

Will Farrell on SNL was GOLD.

Carvey was always good.

Belushi and Aykroyd of course were great.
