November 18, 201411 yr #1 he has a flashy offense that Foley is looking for. #2 he has been a nationally ranked recruiter. #3 he has rebuilt Marshall from mediocrity to an undefeated record AS A DIVISION 1 HEAD COACH that Foley is looking for. #4 he was a Florida assistant on a National Champion under Urban Meyer.

My replies to #1 and # 3 is : He has a very good QB playing against very weak competition. Marshall fans were ready to run him out of town last year.

I knew you would have a disagreement so lets look at Urban Meyers resume before Florida. #1 he has a flashy offense that Foley is looking for. #2 he has been a nationally ranked recruiter. #3 he has rebuilt Utah from mediocrity to an undefeated record AS A DIVISION 1 HEAD COACH that Foley is looking for. I guess I have a vision and can recognize talent that you can't and you want a big name who is canned and ready but isn't actually comming to Florida? Please tell me your hire so I can pick it apart.

Doc Holiday would be a fine choice, but IMO he would be a tier 2 choice for Florida. Not sure you can compare his body of work as a head coach to Urban Meyer. Urban has turned programs around immediately. Urban took Bowling Green from 2-9 the year before his arrival to 8-3 and 9-3. He took Utah from 5-6 the year before his arrival to 10-2 and 12-0 and a Fiesta Bowl win. Holiday is 37 - 24 in his first 5 years with 2 losing seasons in his first 3. A slow builder will not have the time to be successful at Florida. Not his fault, but the only team Marshall has beaten with a winning record this year is 6-4 Rice. His best attribute is the number of guys on his staff that were successful at Florida under the Meyer tenure. I think he would be considered a fall back plan for Foley if he was turned down by some other guys because Foley could sell him as a guy who was part of the successful Meyer years.

I'm not a Florida fan so I don't care who they hire. My vision is getting bad. I do have an appointment with the eye doctor on Monday so you could be right, and Doc could be a great hire, I really don't know all that much about him. I do live in the Ashland/Huntington area though, and I know Marshall fans were ready to run him out of town. It would ben even worse in Gainsville if his 1st 3 seasons there are like his 1st 3 seaons at Marshall. BGP is getting as bad as this country in that people are offended at anything someone says.
November 19, 201411 yr Hue Jackson? Has NFL head coaching experience and has run some exotic offenses. Josh McDaniel from the Pats is a similar guy.
November 21, 201411 yr I thought it was interesting that both Charlie Strong and Bob Stoops were asked about the Florida job by the media this week. Of course, both denied any interest. Had Florida opened a year sooner, I wonder what Strong would have done? I wonder if he would be a serious candidate if he has any interest presently. Year one at UT hasn't gone well. I think Strong is a top coach, but UT fans weren't very happy for a lot of the season. I don't get anyone's fascination with Stoops. The guy could mess up a one car funeral. Oklahoma is in national title talks annually in the preseason and often ranked in the top five. Then they go lose their two or three games a year. I think Boise St. totally whacked his mojo.
November 21, 201411 yr I have no clue who will get this job, but that won't stop me from throwing out a few names. What about Mora at UCLA? Rich Rod from Arizona have any shot? I don't even know who coaches Duke, but they have been uncharacteristically good the past couple of season. Last Duke to UF hire turned out okay. The guy at Northwestern was a hot name last year. They've been back to Earth this year, but the win over Notre Dame can't hurt his stock. He's won more with less.

Fitzgerald at NW is an alum and ha turned down many jobs in the past.
November 21, 201411 yr Urban Meyer pulls the Rick Pitino!! Meyer is not getting in Shine at Ohio State, and the BiG 12 is never in any discussions on the Final Four. I think he makes the move back to the SEC. However, the SEC is better from top to bottom when he was there before, and do to the fact that so many of his past Florida players have had so many off the field problems this could be a long shot.
November 21, 201411 yr I think this will be an interesting hire. Who wins? the Admin that wants a clean, well run program with guys you can be proud to call student athletes or the boosters that want to win at all costs? If the boosters win, watch for the demise of FSU over the next few years as the cycle of thug football rotates...Miami, Florida State, Florida, Florida State, ????
