All State Baseball Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Bob Stoops, Oklahoma — An elite head coach with a winning pedigree, Stoops is a former Florida defensive coordinator under Steve Spurrier. Now in his 16th season at Oklahoma, Stoops and the Sooners are heading to their 16th consecutive bowl game. Jim Harbaugh, San Francisco 49ers Todd Graham, Arizona State — Graham had his contract extended at Arizona State through the 2018 season in May, but a chance at joining the coaching ranks in the SEC would be too enticing to pas up. He’s recorded double-digit win totals four times over the last nine years at four different head coaching stops. Art Briles, Baylor — Briles would bring a much-needed switch in offensive philosophy to Gainesville and energize a fan base that’s grown tired of the methodical run-first approach under the outgoing regime. Hugh Freeze, Ole Miss Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State Rich Rodriguez, Arizona — During his time at West Virginia, Rodriguez developed a recruiting pipeline to the Sunshine State and was the master mind behind one of the nation’s top offenses. He’s continued that offensive success at Arizona after a failed stint at Michigan and would be an ideal get for the Gators. Gary Patterson, TCU Mississippi State coach and former Florida assistant Dan Mullen has all but dismissed any interest in the possible Florida opening and told Campus Insiders’ Seth Davis that he was already at a destination job. We do know coaches keep their cards close to the vest during searches, however. James Franklin and Charlie Strong could have success, but neither is likely to leave their current jobs at Penn State and Texas in their infancy. Steve Spurrier laughed when asked if he would be interested in a return to Gainesville. What the Gators can’t afford to do is hire another assistant coach. The last two, Ron Zook and Muschamp, have failed. Who are Jeremy Foley's first calls to replace Will Muschamp?
John Anthony Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Dropped the ball along time ago with Strong and are gonna pay for it for a half decade.
Jumper_Dad Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 I wouldn't count out Freeze or Mullen yet...SEC EAST is much easier to get to SEC Title game than going through the SEC WEST
Clyde Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Some wonder if Mullen has a strong relationship with the Florida AD.
Cats3x Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Art Briles is the best fit if they want a ton of offense. A ton of Big 12 coaches were worried he'd take the Texas job. Freeze should be a no. Not proven enough. Rich Rod would do well as would Mullen.
Jumper_Dad Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Since Urban's illness/exhaustion is over, he could return to Florida!
D-Rob Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 You can bet this will be a home run hire, Foley won't want to whiff on a coach for the 3rd time. This will depend on if Foley wants a proven head coach or take a big time coordinator. I don't see Mullen leaving State. Rich Rod, Graham, and Briles are the likely candidates. A name to keep in mind during the search, Jim McElwain. He has Colorado State at 9-1 and has experience as offensive coordinator at Alabama.
Jumper_Dad Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 How excited will Gator Nation be if it's Rich Rod...complete disaster at Michigan. Has been successful and second level programs but completely whiffed during his shot at the top. Stoops aint leaving Oklahoma I'd love to see Harbaugh at Florida....Jeremy Foley make this happen!!!
gchs_uk9 Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Art Briles is the best fit if they want a ton of offense. A ton of Big 12 coaches were worried he'd take the Texas job. I don't think Briles will leave the state of Texas. His connections with high school in the state have made him the top recruiter in the state. Baylor has become a proven winner. While I'm sure he'd do well at Florida, I don't see him leaving Baylor.
Cats3x Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Stoops and Harbaugh are interesting. I do wonder if Harbaugh could build his kind of team in Florida. Multiple TE, pro style offense. Bob Stoops would come. OU has to be wearing on him. Sometimes you've just been at a place too long.
Cats3x Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Graham is a snake. He doesn't deserve an SEC job.
Eagle2013 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 I'm all for Brian Kelly going to Florida.
Irish Cat Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 I'm all for Brian Kelly going to Florida. In my opinion he has had more success than anyone at South Bend since Holtz. I'd be careful what you wish for. Last couple times the Irish job has been open, coaches haven't exactly been jumping to be the next in line.
