I say yes on party affiliation, therefor the straight ticket would go away as well.

I actually heard some people that said they thought the box on the paper ballot where you could could check GOP or DEM was where they were to check if they were a republican or democrat and didn't realize that it was a "Straight Ticket" box.

Been saying this for several years now. Absolutely, it should be removed. You're there to vote on individuals, not for a party...otherwise we wouldn't even have to bother to break all the races down. There's no reason why you can't take the extra 60-90 seconds or whatever to fill in each box.

What would it take to get that removed from the ballot?

Removing straight ticket would probably result in some people not voting but I don't know how much it really bothers me that those people wouldn't vote if they can't be bothered to educate themselves about the candidates.

Doesn't really matter as both parties would have volunteers handing you the "straight ticket" candidates when you go to the poll. Those who wanted to vote all dem or all rep could still get the information without any trouble.

While I'm not someone who punches straight ticket I disagree it should be removed. We may not agree with people who do it but it is their right .

I am somewhat inclined to agree. There are people who aligned with "party", regardless of the individual candidate.

And that's why we have the problems we do today.

Agreed! They need to get rid of the straight ticket, make people spend a minute or two to fill out the ballot. If they want to card all their votes for one party or another, that's fine, but fill out the entire ballot.

I would agree the eliminate the straight ticket. But will parties agree? Of course not.

It used to be country over party at the national level. Given the number of straight party votes over the past few years that would appear to not be the case.

Is this party affiliation or sexual affiliation?
