November 12, 201411 yr I use my cruise control religiously. As soon as I can get it set and use it for an appreciable amount of time, I do it. OBVIOUSLY there are thousands of people, however, that don't, and can't maintain a constant speed without it. I was reminded this morning, just as I am most days...several times a day, of this fact. In the right hand lane on 127 south headed to work, cruise is set on about 61 mph. I easily start to catch up with a Dodge pickup in the right lane. I pull into the left hand lane to pass. No such luck...they speed up a few mph and pull ahead of me. I shrug and come back into the right hand lane. In just a short bit I am again right behind the truck. I again pull into left hand lane...they again speed up. This time I accelerate past them, merge back over, get off the gas and let the cruise settle back to where it was. I now easily stay in front of them, and as a matter of fact it appears they slow way down as I am now pulling away from them quite easily as they fall way behind. Anyone else notice this or have this happen to them often? And who uses their cruise control?

November 12, 201411 yr I seldom use cruise but have no trouble maintaining a constant speed. It is frustrating to encounter those who do vary their speed, often my a lot.

November 12, 201411 yr It seems to be a natural inclination to speed up as someone starts to pass you. Have even found myself doing the same thing on occasion. If I start to pass someone and they speed up a bit, I speed up a bit more...pass...and go on my merry way. As BigVMan noted, they usually slow back down, leaving you in the clear.

Off subject but funny story about Higginsport OH. I received a ticket the summer before the big flood. My company said that they would pay it but never did. I realized my DL were suspend that winter after the flood. The town records had been lost in the flood and the only way I could pay the ticket was to call Lulu at some bar she worked part time at in the evenings. I thought I was thrown back in time to Mayberry.

Then they speed up again and the original scenario starts. Drives...me...nuts!

November 12, 201411 yr OK. My cruise control pet peeve is when you have your cruise set, say 77 on 75. Cruising along in the right lane and catch up to a slow moving car and need to get into the middle but can't because some knucklehead is driving at 78. If I'm the guy in the middle and see someone in the situation I described I think 'hey, this guy doesn't want to slow or sit behind the slow car' and I give them that lane by going left or I speed up and get by them so they don't have to slow down. Where has common sense and courtesy gone? Half of those jokers are nose down in their iphone anyway. Should just put the bumper to them (snuck in the nascar reference for ya spindoc).
November 12, 201411 yr I had cruise set around 75 mph coming down I-75 from NKY and there was a guy in a truck that either passed me or I passed him 10 times before we got to Lexington...Again I had cruise on the entire time. Dude was talking on the phone and going from around 65 mph to 85 mph. Same day I passed a woman in a Prius, with her head down reading a book she was holding on her steering wheel. :no:
November 12, 201411 yr Heck, I don't care if you don't use cruise, just get it in your head what the left lane is for and move the heck over to the right.
