I agree with RCC about Simon Kenton struggling against teams with speed and athletes. The past two years it has been the end of the line when they go up against these type of teams in the playoffs. (Scott Co. and Butler) Hopefully the Pioneers have made the adjustments to try and combat these issues that have cost them from advancing in the playoffs. Lafayette will be a good test, they have a lot of speed, but are beatable. I always root for the NKY team, and hope the Pioneers have learned from the past playoffs and games this year, to be able to contain the Generals speed.

This...a good test.

SK's front seven played very good against Madison Central. They was in the backfield almost every play.

this isnt saying too much honestly. Madison Central had 3 wins this year, Woodford Co, Paul Dunbar & Tates Creek... none of these teams were too successful this year with a combined W-L total of 11-22.

SK's defense just needs to play a sound fundamental game and keep the ball in front of them. Speed has hurt SK in the past when they get caught up trying to run with those guys. Playing solid defense will negate the big play and allow SK to win this one.

I think is key. And yes, I agree with you!

I think Lafayette wins a close one.

The Generals have great athletes but they are much more physical than what they are being given credit for, at least offensively. They have a giant O-line and run a bunch of power I stuff with an unbalanced line, usually with UK Tackle commit Landon Young lining up as the tight end on that side.

They will also spread you out and run read option with their talented sophomore QB Walker Wood. Out wide Lucky Jackson is very good, he's committed to WKU and is also a standout on the basketball court.

On D they are led by WKU commit Devon Quincy at the LB spot.

This should be a great game. I worry about Lafayette on defense but I think they'll have enough speed on the field to pull out the victory in the end. Speed kills.

Lafayette has speed not worried! SK also has speed in Racke at QB running the read option, Powell at running back who had his best game last week and catch everything WR Logan Winkler. Lafayette will have a tough time stoping those 3. SK also has a huge O-line.

You can negate speed somewhat on the offensive side if you play sound, control your gaps and don't over pursue. If you play tight at the line and can eliminate free releases by receivers, your DL has a chance to apply pressure and move the QB out of the pocket.

I think Lafayette wins a close one.

Uh oh!!! You didn't say "READ OPTION" did you??? And good athletes???

I must say this though. Lafayette has a tough time stopping the run if a team has a good back and a decent size line. Just ask Henry Clay, Lex Catholic, Scott Co and even Campbell Co. Bryan Station's QB just went stupid on Lafayette with 350 passing and 5 TD. All back in those teams ran over 100 yards on their defense. Ball control and leave Lafayette's offense on the sideline and SK will win. You don't, then Lafayette will go nuts on the scoreboard.

After watching film of Lafayette I notice their qb always lobs his passes up in the air. I think SK will get a few interceptions Friday night.

Lafayette is going to have their hands full with the big linebackers of SK Barry Deaton 6'4 230 pounds and Chris 6'3 215 will be coming after the Generals all night!

Don't fall into the trap 'Neers! Head on a swivel!

Some observations on Lafayette from Friday.

At times they can be undisciplined both in on field assignment responsibilities and poise. Penalties can pile up and kill some of their very skilled playmakers best efforts. When that happens they can be put in some off schedule down and distance situations which can allow a disciplined D to get off the field.

From first kickoff don't go get any POPCORN:popcorn: to eat when a special teams play is upcoming. Never a dull moment with an aggressive on side game seemingly on each kick. Very skilled athletes lined up throughout the return formation so deep or middle they've got someone dangerous enough to make it hurt if you don't stay in lanes, get flat to the ball, and run through the tackle. They will get through a reach or an arm tackle cut back and Woop Woop Woop, a zebra is putting two arms in the air. :wideyed:#14 more on him in a minute.

#9 QB Wood, Elusive, Quick, Shifty, Fast. Not powerful, but never saw him in a situation where he wanted or needed to plow(not his game). Different player but every bit as dangerous as Moore, and a Soph! I haven't seen enough to comment on passing ability but in this game the long ball or tuck and run was the recipe. Not many combo routes. D line must stay disciplined with push up middle, and D ends in contain. If they get too deep trying to sack him, they are just opening up the gate. He will slip through and you don't want this young man untouched in the open field. Draw play is always a possibility.

#6 RB Robinson His stats were half of their regular season run production but I never got the sense he became a focus of their run game. Maybe this game but he was contained and plays went elsewhere. Still numbers don't lie.

#11 Wr Tall and fast, if your DB is 5'8" he will catch ball over the top of good coverage. Deep threat, and dangerous with YAC.

#14 Alstatt He was the difference in game IMO. Played FS on D, with saving tackles throughout. Played key plays on O, look for sweep to him out of power set. Surprisingly fast for size, cuts on a dime!!! Also can run through you. Difference maker who they called on at seemingly every key moment and he produced. Oh yeh, don't want him to get the kick!!!

Against their D. RUN AT THEM, block the point of attack and grind out first downs. Long drives that result in seven points, DUH but true. Get Powell into second level untouched and he'll have a good game against this defense. When they load up, throw slants to lone wide out, or run combo routes to trips. I don't know if bubble works with their speed, drive them off and come back to ball. Mix in double move if you can give Racke time.

If each team has four or five drives per half, SK has real good shot. Don't run and gun with them!

Execute and don't give ball back, SK can win!

High scoring game probably goes to Lafayette.

No epiphanies here just low hanging fruit still on the tree.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the great assessment Buckeye!

Should be a good game

Lafayette has played the far superior schedule (unlike SK they haven't ducked anybody) and that will help when and if the going gets tough.

Lafayette's WRs should be loving this matchup.

SK is physically tough but not as tough as Dixie or Ryle. Lafayette should get past SK but no way they beat Dixie or Ryle.

In a game that is Lafayette's to lose, I'll take Lafayette too intimidate SK's back 7 and win this one.

Was told by a state official that SK is claiming there is supposed to be another purge in Lexington this week and SK is trying to get the game moved to SK. I say man up for once and play the game.
