:lol2: You are 100 % correct but we all know at some point in every season until the end of time that we will have a thread on it. I am hoping that at some point before I die that we will see three teams advancing from a district, if not two.

I have been an advocate of 3 teams advancing with the district winner getting a 1st round bye. I will say that I am not at all opposed to footbalfan18's idea of just 2 teams, district champ & runner up, being the ones that's advancing.......

 

Anything but the "everybody gets a trophy and all are singing around the campfire" theory that we have now.

 

It is a difficult dilemma for sure....Not sure what the right answer is....I just know that I "cringe" when some of these TOTALLY MISS MATCHED games are played and pray for no injuries...for either side.

A district champion with a real chance to make a deep playoff run get a key player (or any for that matter) injured in a game that, lets face it, 99.9999 times out of 100 is decided when the pairings are made, not a week or more later when the game is actually played. Same way for any kid on one of the teams that are the 4 seed - a chance of being injured very seriously and to the point that he may miss participating in another sport, like basketball / baseball or any other that he may have a real chance at helping his / school's team of a very legitimate tourney run / possible championship. Both of these scenario's would be really bad and all for imo a game that practically no one, including the players, coaches feel is useless, no need or desire to even play.

I don't really have a dog in the fight, although I lean toward top 3 in the district advancing with district champ getting a bye.

 

That being said, I keep hearing about football players "not wanting to play in hopeless games" (my paraphrasing). If that's the case, they should never have come out for the team in the first place.

Why is it that we always come back to this argument. Why limit only football? There are basketball, baseball, softball blowouts in the first round but I don't hear the clamoring to limit the number of teams allowed in the post season. Move on these are the rules we have the schools were surveyed and they kept this format. My only reason for the constant argument would be the basketball coaches want their players earlier. Lol

Wonder when was the last time the KHSAA let basketball coaches vote on what their post season looked like? I don't recall seeing the results, but I am sure that the 1 versus 6 classses was an interesting debate.

Maybe the smaller class sizes should have a smaller playoff. Are there fewer teams in 1A currently than other classes? Is 6A like that too?

Class 1A and Class 6A have 32 teams each, everyone in those classes make the playoffs.

 

All other teams are divided up between 2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A.

As a Belfry fan... a team decimated with injuries who will be getting a lot of players back this week.... I absolutely love that the Pirates play Jackson County this week.

 

For those returning from injury get some game snaps to get your timing down together.

For those that are a week away from returning they get another week of rest and recovery.

As posted earlier....221 total teams in 6 classes.

No benefit to the games at all. Of course I'm old school and miss the days of only the district winner making the playoffs. 3 games to determine the state champion, games started late August/early September and everyone was done before December.

Still think size of the school doesn't matter. Let the strength of recent years determine what class you're in. That would eliminate some lopsided games. 11 game regular season and only top 2 make it to playoffs. Would really help KY football. You can't tell me Mayfield couldn't hold it's own vs. Many 5A and 6A programs. A district of Mayfield, McCracken, Graves, Christian. Would be awesome for competitive football, then let less competitive programs classify into their own class.
