Nasty Sprained Ankle

Featured Replies

I was once sent home from the ER with a sprained ankle one night a couple years ago. Walked to class the next day attempting to "walk it off." Got a call while limping to class saying the radiologist got a second opinion and discovered a fracture on my medial maleolous. Found the nearest bench and it hurt way worse after walking on it for about a half of a mile.

MJ I had the EXACT same thing happen to me 3 1/2 years ago. I shot a 3 and landed on the defenders foot. Immediately went down writhing in pain.

At the time, my health Insurance wasn't the best. I had a high deductible.

I managed to limp around for two days. Finally, I showed a coworker who almost threw up because my ankle was so swollen. My foot was completely purple (including my toes) and the bruising went into my calf.

On day 3, I went to Commonweath Ortho's after hours clinic. The radiologist asked when I did it (and I told her). She responded: 'uhh, you know we are open on Tuesdays & Wednesdays, right?!'

I knew I had a severely sprained ankle, but it was worth the trip. They gave me a walking boot which allowed me to walk.

As it turns out, I tore all the ligaments in my ankle. The doctor told me that I would have been better off breaking my ankle rather than just touring all the ligaments. Like you, I had a severe grade 3 ankle sprain.

When I followed up over a month later, I still had a great three ankle sprain. I had been in a boot for over a month at that point.

Over the next 2+ years I wore an ankle brace for any semi athletic event. Finally I have regain some strength and mobility in my ankle and no longer wear a brace… Just waiting for it to happen again.

Yep I've had those, multiple times. Played on one after doing that about halfway through a game. Really really wish I had quit when I did it, but was too stupid. All I did was hop up and down the floor on one leg. But yes it hurts like the dickens

Cut it off, and get back out there! :lol2:

That is sick looking, feel your pain bro.

That is what Ronnie Lott would do.

The color is starting to set in n both sides of the bottom of my foot but nothing like yours yet CC.

Get the ice all the way around it. Double bagged crushed with an ace bandage is good.

When you have sprains that bad, most doctors say it's almost better for recovery if you had broken it. You'll be feeling that for months even after it appears to have healed.

The bruising for me actually got worse over a couple days.

Good luck, man. It's a brutal recovery because you don't have any strength for (what feels like) a couple years. Even a year after my injury, my ankle would frequently swell up and be painful.

Take the physical therapy seriously. It helps. A lot.

Dude.

You have a hairy foot.

I've been to the ER three times with a sprain, always the left ankle. I had the same thing happen playing hoops while attending Morehead. Three point shot and I landed on foot of the defender. The next few days sucked since I had to navigate campus on crutches.

Yea, you should shave the top of your feet. Looks gross.

Oh, that ankle looks gross. Worst I had turned my whole foot purple. Still has a click/pop to it 12 years later...so you got that to look forward to.

I still have trouble with the strengh in my ankle feels like it just gives out at times. And its at random times. Like I step down wrong and I almost go to the ground. Never know when its going to happen eithier, and it pops alot these days. I hurt mine back in 1999/2000 ish cont remember when exactily but its been a long time ago.

Now that's what I call a cankle! :lol2:

But, on a serious note, that sucks.

Cut it off, and get back out there! :lol2:
