November 1, 201411 yr The bruising for me actually got worse over a couple days. Good luck, man. It's a brutal recovery because you don't have any strength for (what feels like) a couple years. Even a year after my injury, my ankle would frequently swell up and be painful. Take the physical therapy seriously. It helps. A lot. Having broken both ankles twice, I concur. Do any PT offered or you'll keep turning the stinkin' things. My last break was the left ankle 17 years ago and there is no strength at all in either, now. I can be walking down the street and hit an uneven split in the pavement and turn one or go down and I sprain both all of the time. I have to be careful walking in my own backyard. PT is no help for me anymore.

November 2, 201411 yr I have had multiple ankle sprains and you have a good one, MJ. I hate to be Debbie Downer, but as stretched as you ligaments are, it will NEVER be the same as before. If you step on a pebble on the sidewalk, it will roll again. If you want to keep playing sports especially basketball in the future, you better have it taped to be like a cast. Words from the wise. I wish you the speediest recovery possible.
November 3, 201411 yr Author If I can't really play basketball anymore, I'm kind of okay with that. My only concern is beer vending for the Reds.
November 4, 201411 yr Anyone who has played a lot of hoops has had a badly sprained ankle although yours should be on the Mount Rushmore of sprained ankles - that is nasty. I have always wondered why there aren't more of them. With 10 guys on a court at the same time in a confined area, it seems like people would be landing on each others feet even more than they do.

November 5, 201411 yr I did the same thing last October. Came down and SHREDDED my ligaments and broke the metatarsal on the outside of my foot. My assistant had a cooler that attached to a sleeve of some sort that circulated cold water around. That worked really well. That and elevation.
