FSU and ND have both looked unimpressive in several games so far this season. I think several other top teams have looked vulnerable as well but, as is the usual, the insularity of the SEC protects them from a lot of criticism. Mississippi State struggled with UAB but because that was probably their best opponent out-of-conference, we really don't have a benchmark.
October 29, 201411 yr Florida was -- and will always be -- in the minds of Kentucky fans, "disinterested" in that Sugar Bowl. It's the only way they can explain away losing to them every single year going back forever while Louisville beat them on basically their first try. I just thought UF was a fraud all of that season. They had a good defense but their offense was wretched, not to mention Muschamp has always been Muschump in my mind. Sometimes the breaks just go your way in games and they had everything go right all year. It is not an excuse or a cop-out, but many schools take some of these games against big school (or SEC) competition as their Superbowl. And it means more than the Pitching Wedge Bowl. It is natural to have a hangover effect if you have a crappy coach - UL had a great coach - and who knows what you are going to get after taking off over a month. It is why I never invest much in to bowl records.
October 29, 201411 yr How many of those lost their last game? I can appreciate the fact they are looking at the totality of the schedule and not being prisoner of the moment. It is why Notre Dame is where they are (though I still think they should be a slot or two higher).

SEC enthusiasts want to beat their chests about how they dominate College Football, and when they don't, there's always an excuse. Had UK beaten Florida that year NOT in a bowl game, there would have been four t-shirts made before the new polls came out. The SEC is almost always the best conference, but they are not unbeatable by any means. When they lose to a "lowly" team like Louisville, just swallow the lump in your throats and get over it. It won't last long. They usually bounce back well.

If the ND WR had not blatantly blocked when he was not allowed (and he did not need to - the coverage was blown), ND is 2nd right now - not sure where FSU would be. It is amazing how much one play affected the rankings of two teams. You could say the same thing about some other teams though as well. I don't think there is a great team right now. That will make the rest of the season very interesting...and it is way too early to worry about these things as the season is barely half over.

They are at #2 because they haven't lost in two seasons, but have also underwhelmed. The fact they've dropped to where they are speaks volumes in my eyes.
October 29, 201411 yr As I said when just about everyone, everywhere were slamming the BCS .....Now the argument will be over #4 vs. #4,6. etc. and why they should be in. The big / only difference is that there will be four teams happy instead of two and the rest complaining. Bottom line is I don't care if there is a 4, 8 or however many team playoff, the ones just out are going to be "P'd" off. Another thought is that I can't wait to watch / listen to the Finebaum (spelling ?) show today on the SEC network. Should be hilarious - some of those callers - Bama, Auburn, LSU, etc. fans remind me of some of "those" U.K. basketball fans calling in the radio shows. :lol2:
