Controversial calls are just as the name implies, controversial. However a loss is a loss, a win is a win.

Couldn't agree more, it absolutely means nothing now.

They should make it 8 teams and put the top 4 from the SEC vs. the top 4 from elsewhere. That way we would get to see 3 more top-level SEC games each season.

As other's have said the poll coming out is meaningless other than to try to build "buzz" about it. It is interesting to see the mindset of the committee but serves little other purpose.

This is the most glaring thing to me. How Notre Dame is 10 is beyond me.

Notre Dame's schedule is weak. Not their fault. Who would have thought Stanford would have 3 losses? How could they predict a total collapse of Michigan's program? ND has no good wins. They really, really needed that Florida State win. Even USC has 3 losses already so they aren't going to get credit for a good win in that one either. ND needs those two Pac 12 teams to win out to help their chances. And they must get a win over Arizona St.

 

As to the rankings in general, I don't get too caught up in these mid season rankings. As we saw in the previous system, these things have a way of sorting themselves out as the season goes on. I do like the rankings being released early because then there are no surprises. And I think that is one of the main reasons they released these rankings. It helps bowl committees start lining up who they are going after.

What don't you understand about "most years"?

 

The top 4 teams in the SEC crush the opposition most of the past decade. That's assuming they're motivated and I assume a playoff system would motivate them. Where SEC top teams have lost over the past decade they screwed up and just didn't want to be in the bowl they were in.

Florida was -- and will always be -- in the minds of Kentucky fans, "disinterested" in that Sugar Bowl. It's the only way they can explain away losing to them every single year going back forever while Louisville beat them on basically their first try.
