Mason County 62 Clark County 59

Mason County:

Best coaching job in the state: Host the region every year and host the district at worst every other year with 3 other teams being all A. A good size school with a great following and a constant stream of athletes and good feeder programs in a region that is known for it's professionalism. Wow

Having witnessed now the 10th and 14th region tournaments, I'm not sure the logic about crowd size in the 10th vs the 14th holds true. Furthermore, Knott Central holds as many fans as Mason co. Irregardless, I'm not a Die Hard supporter of GRC, but I feel sorry for a team that is basically dead even but yet plays on the other team's home floor. The oppurtunity to win a region may only come once in a quarter century for some schools.

Don't you think that if the coaches felt Mason had such an advantage the tourney location would have changed long ago?? The horse is dead, quit beating it!!

Congrats Royals, good luck on Thursday!

Congratulations to the Royals. What a difference a year makes. This time last year all of the talk about MC was weather or not they should fire O'Hearn. Good luck MC and congratulations.

Coach O'Hearn was 10th region coach of the year last year. Not to argue, but most of the talk I heard last year was he did a great job. Now, they follow up with a region title and a trip to the Sweet 16.

Congratulations to the Royals, and best of luck at Rupp Arena! :thumb:

PS- Coach O'Hearn is a pretty good football coach also, especially when he is teamed up with his buddy Henry Boone. But, I won't mention where those two were when they were suppose to be at the UK football clinic. Let's just say you could hear cheering and horse hooves in the background. :sssh:

I agree Chief Smoke. Those who did not feel that O'Hearn, the regional coach of the year, did not do a tremendous job last season are either biased or uninformed.

Coach O'Hearn has done something that no other coach at Mason Co. has EVER done. That is win a Tenth Region tournament when Mason Co. was not the favorite. In fact, they were, by all accounts, the third best team in the tournament behind Clark Co. and Pendleton Co.

Everyone knows how great a coach Kelly Wells was/is. But he never could win a regional as an underdog (0 for 2). It was not until he had overwhelming talent did he win it.

All he had was Chris Lofton:sssh: Too Slow. Can't Defend, and only a shooter!

1996,

I assume you are being facetious.

And Wells had two other All-Staters in Litzinger and Grutza too. And very nice complimentary players in Jones and Tibbs.

Free throws, free throws, free throws. That is why GRC lost, not because they were on Mason's home floor.

You must not have followed the SEC this year. Lofton is not only a great shooter but was one of the leaders in spg. As for speed he left everyone in the 10th in the dust for 2 years. I just hope you were being sarcastic.

Do we need to definitions beside the smileys for some folks?

:sssh:

nope its pretty simple, just it was funny that you mentioned he couldnt play defence.

Mason County has won the 10th Region four out of the last five years. Year to year, they truly are the most dominant team in the region. Congrats to them and good luck against the 4th Region.

Also, the past nine regional champions have been from either the 38th or 39th District:

98-Fleming Co. 39th

99-Fleming Co. 39th

00-Brossart 38th

01-Campbell Co. 38th

02-Mason Co. 39th

03-Mason Co. 39th

04-Mason Co. 39th

05-Pendleton Co. 38th

06-Mason Co. 39th

Could have something to do with them playing it in their gym every year. Anyone who thinks this does not give them an advantage is crazy.

I hope that in the future we are disadvantaged by having to play Mason County on their home floor in every 10th Region Championship game ever played.

Smite us with it.

Mason has a very slight homecourt advantage. But the reason they won the game was they were the best team.

The tenth region tournament not held at the Fieldhouse is not one I want to be part of. You can only say it's a disadvantage when Mason gains an edge from the homecourt. Having the game won and not hitting FREE throws to seal it is not due to a homecourt disadvantage.
